Taking a Sattal tour is the best way to enjoy a tryst with the mother nature. Sattal is a group of seven freshwater lakes located in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. Situated in the verdant Mehragaon Valley, these enchanting lakes are surrounded by oak and pine forests. The names of these lakes are Panna Tal or Garud Tal, Nal-Damyanti Tal, Purna Tal, Sita Tal, Ram Tal, Laxman Tal and Sukha Tal. Rich in biodiversity, the region of Sattal is home to more than 11,000 species of moths, beetles and bugs. The region also has several plants, ferns, lichens, fungi, medicinal herbs and shrubs.
The lakes are undoubtedly the foremost tourist attractions in Sattal and birdwatching around them is something which all tourists enjoy. The shores of the lakes are home to 500 species of domestic and migratory birds including Lineated Barbets, Slaty-headed Parakeets, Lammergeiers, Himalayan Griffons, Crested Serpent Eagles, Flycatchers, Cheer Pheasants and White-throated Kingfishers. In addition, travellers can see various species of butterflies including Peacock Panzy, Blue Peacock, Paris Peacock and Red-base Jazebel.
Camping on the shores of the lakes is primary among things to do in Sattal. Adventurous activities like boating, rock climbing, kayaking and river crossing are arranged by private organisers of the area. Travellers can also stroll through the dense forests to explore the wilderness of the region. This type of nature walk with birds chirping all around will surely invigorate tourists. The Subhash Dhara, Sattal Mission Estate & Methodist Ashram and Butterfly Museum are nearby tourist attractions of the place. With the blend of natural beauty and adventure sports, Sattal presents itself as a perfect weekend destination.
