Sawantwadi is a small town located in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. The town is towards the southern part of the state amid the Sahyadri mountains and is very close to Goa. It is a typical Konkan town with high hills, dense forests and surging lakes collectively forming alluring landscapes. All this put together with sumptuous cuisine makes visitors' trip to Sawantwadi a memorable one. In addition, the town has the Arabian Sea on its west and Western Ghats on the east which do not fail to make their presence felt and offer lovely weather all year long.
The most attractive among place to visit in Sawantwadi is the Sawantwadi Palace. Constructed using laterite stone, this palace is a magnificent building situated on top of the Narendra Hill. Lester Gate leads tourists into this palace, which displays amazing architecture and houses traditional lacquerware goods. The work of the artisans is exemplary and can be seen on paintings, wooden structures, clay models and other artefacts. Apart from the palace, the Moti Talao is a site of natural beauty. The lake is lined by beautiful gardens where tourists can relax and appreciate the divinity of nature.
There are few other Sawantwadi tourist places which are worth visiting. The Chitnis Wada, Atmeshwar Tali, Kolgaon Darwaza and Vithal Mandir are impressive locations in and around the town. With so many places of sightseeing Sawantwadi embodies, the most prominent activity in the town is to visit and learn about these places. In addition, the Sawantwadi market is an interesting place for tourists to shop. Visitors can also try out various activities in the lake area like boating and swimming. Of course, it will not be a bad idea to visit Goa for tourist who are willing to go beyond the serenity of this small town.
