I stayed here in August 2017 for couple of weeks. I was given a beautiful room and I felt very comfortable. The property and its garden is very beautiful. The people at reception were very helpful including the drivers who were there to help me whenever I needed any help. The only issue that I had here was the food options. I think dining and food is the area where this hotel needs to improve.

A lovely , friendly hotel. The food was good as was the service. Old fashioned and in need of refurbishment! However, comfortable and peaceful surroundings within easy reach of the centre of Shimla, by foot or for those who need it, by taxi. I would certainly stay there again

A lovely looking hotel but the decor is rather tired. Shimla was cool after our tour of Rajasthan. And the journey to our rooms from reception was down some rather windy (breezy) corridors. The staff seemed rather indifferent to our presence at this hotel, especially given the time we had been travelling....since 6.30 that morning and it was 6.00pm in the evening....and the staff at other hotels. It all seemed too much trouble. The hotel is quite large and we arrived to notice a large party of British people staying too. Although they did stay within their own group...which was easy to do in the surroundings. Lost of photographs of famous people and royalty as I understand the hotel is owned by a Maharajah and once (1940;s) visited by film stars etc. There s a bar which is quite small but does serve Gin....no tonic though...they ran out. The food is interesting. There s a menu but it does seem small for the hotel. The omelettes were ruibbery and uninteresting. The other foods...Indian ...were quite pleasant and yet I had tasted better. The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff forgot us on a number of occasions so I don't think I will be going back but it does have a pretty garden to sit in with lovely views.

Very nice property. Located in a premium location with a lot of garden space for kids to play. Very nice food and lovely bar. Very hospitable staff who helped us with basic medicines. Needs improvement in interiors of the room

Arrived after a long car journey from Dharamsala, we were warmly welcomed and given a large room at the front (208). As other have said this hotel is a fascinating window into the past with photographs of family, royalty and autographed photos of Hollywood stars. However, although bedrooms now have heating (ours didn't work properly), there is no heating in the vast, airy corridors and there are only small portable heaters in the dining room. Our bedroom was in reasonable condition but the bed coverings were threadbare and the bathroom floor flooded whenever we used the shower (the tile barrier had broken and not been replaced). Mirrors were worn and needed replacement. However there was ample hot water. On the positive side, the location is lovely with views of the hills and a pleasant walk to the Mall. The staff were gracious and attentive and food at dinner was delicious. Breakfast was reasonable. I would recommend this hotel on account of its heritage character and location but expect some shortcomings.
