Decent property just off the Shimoga thirtahalli highway, small with 6 wooden cottages and couple of jungle tent accommodation, not much of amenities, the plus point is the price which is way cheaper than all other JLR's and the food is a definite plus, simple but tasty menu, rooms are small but decent enough for a day's stay. The elephant camp is to the other side of the road, we spent more than an hour, you can bathe the elephants and have photo ops. Few negatives, strict timings for food is a no-no, when on holidays you tend to be a bit lazy and off time, but we were forced to take the food within the specified timings. NO HOT WATER while we stayed, we asked a couple of times but they said they were checking and eventually we had to contend with cold water. Apart from these two, the stay was overall very good.

At the outset, one should not visit JLR sakrebyle property with expectations akin to their other forest retreats. This one is a distant and poor cousin of the latter. The positives first. 1. Interaction with the pachyderms is the best bit. Being up, close and personal is an out of the world experience. 2. Children's activity space within the camp is interesting and offbeat. Engaging for kids. 3. Fairly modest service standards. On the gloomy side - 1. Conflict between the forest department & JLR team is out in the open in the form of a neglected herbal garden, which has falled apart. Only boards are holding fort, whilst the plants have withered away. 2. Plastic bottles/chips & biscuit wrappers strewn around the property are an unpleasant sight. 3. Staff quarters merges with guest stay area. Linen put to dry adorns surroundings and is detestable. 4. Soothing nature's silence is marred by the noise generated by the staff's nonstop clothes washing which is right in the centre of the camp. 5. This is not a typical jungle lodges space as it is right on the highway and not cut off from civilisation. 6. Few more unsavoury sights - broken plastic chairs on display coupled with solar units which are right in the middle of the campus. 7. Food - borders between average to negligible, 8. Space lacks vibrancy in the form of an interactive or social manager who can share titbits / info about sakrebyle and the likes. Will be great if the above are looked into. For the price charged, it is fairly decent and value for money. We chose this space primarily for its proximity to the elephant camp. Later realised that it would have been wiser to stay in shimoga and travel to visit the pachyderms.

This is one of the newly acquired property from JLR. So from a cottage and amenities point of view it is on par with other JLR properties. Cottage was quite clean, well equipped with toiletries and towels. We stayed in the Chalet and it had a decent sit out area. As we entered the premises after a long drive from Bengaluru - we were quite exhausted. I really wished there was a welcome drink in the package or was available to order. Nevertheless we quickly checked in and went for lunch. Food was very tasty - we loved every meal we had here. We complemented the chef and did put some money in the tip box. Encourage all tourists to do this - as tips should be shared by all in the facility. The staff was very courteous and service oriented. The nature walk and morning trek was good. The staff took us to elephant training area and it was amazing to see how these gentle giants can be trained by a fleet of mere men. Some of the mahouts were poking elephants, which I did not quite like. But they say it is for our safety. Morning after the trek, one can go to the elephant camp across the road and indulge in elephant bathing. We even picked up a brush and scrubbed them. The elephants seemed to enjoy this.. They were very interactive here. Post that was elephant rides, we did not want to take one. Instead we walked back to our cottage to freshen up and have our tasty breakfast. One tip to everyone - if you plan to bath the elephants - save your bath for later. As you would get dirty, elephants poo in the river and they also spray being playful and all that. So you will need to take a shower/bath again after interaction. The general upkeep of the property needs a bit of an improvement. Atleast within the premises, the plants should be watered and lawned. It looks a bit rundown and dry. The Herbal park, bird bath everywhere was quite dry considering it is summer. However a lit of drip irrigation would have done wonders to keep this serene place green and lively.

One of the newer and economical properties of 'Jungle Lodges and Resorts'. Stayed here for a day in a wooden cottage. Itinerary in their website was followed perfectly. A staff member accompanied and guided us on the herbal garden tour and birding. We could spot many species of birds and quite a few giant red squirrels, deers and peacocks. One can also take a stroll to the surrounding Nakshatra and Rashi Vana. Neat cottage and bathroom. Good food. Calm surroundings. Cooperative staff. If one doesn't have their own transport then walking with baggage from the gate to the resort can be arduous. Basic transport (at least for the baggage) can be arranged by speaking to the manager in advance.
