When you are in srinagar stay in houseboat is a must. We stayed for 3 days as club mahindra could not give us more days in hotel. The loation of boat is in ghat 17 which is very close to the mountain ranges and the scenic view is awesome.. The hse boat is good but the heating systems here in boats are not great specially if its winter. Tho they do their best to keep guests comfortable. The food was tasty and the cook makes what you want. They also have a la carte card. . Good for senior citizens who who can eat limited food. Rates of food also reasonable.
Dal Lake and Houseboats - Wow

We stayed in November 2018 for 5 nights. Beautifully maintained houseboat, great service, great chef make your stay and experience memorable. A few teething issues however those are negligible when you consider the overall experience. They give you an entire package of pick up, drop right from the airport, station, etc besides the vehicle for your local visits, all at competitive rates. Definitely more than worth the visit, we will make another visit soon

Stayed for two nights with Queen Elizabeth House boat with Club Mahindra. Was pleasantly surprised to see it located on Ghat no 17 towards the open area on Dal Lake. The location offers good view of the lake. The owner Mr Munir was on hand to welcome us and the check in process was smooth and flawless.. The room was good sized for a house boat and well furnished. Bathroom was surprise very clean and running hot and cold water. The whole houseboat was well maintained and smell free all together. The House boat offers two shikara rides free for the day. The boat also has a nice terrace where you can sit in good weather and soak in the view. Although this was my first experience of the house boat but I suspect it was one of the better one's considering the horror stories of smelly and ill maintained boats. All in all a very pleasant experience and strongly recommended. The only jarring part of the whole experience was the food scene. Mr Munir the owner boasted of freshly cooked food as per order but the quality of non veg cooking was dismal and I suspect left overs were served. The breakfast was served but options very limited. Lack of fruits in a place like Kashmir was jarring. Moreover I have stayed at other Mahindra resorts and they can genuinely pride themselves at the range and quality of food being offered. I can understand the limitations of range on a houseboat but lack of quality has no excuses. After a whole day of sightseeing one gets lazy to go across the city for dinner and a sub par dinner experience on the boat is a definite kill joy. I would suggest they can limit options and offer a basic menu but the chef has to improve drastically. I tried rogan josh and biriyani on two different nights and could finish the meal due to quality. Biriyani was rubbery and dry, rogan josh was flat listless ( missing the famed kashmiri spices completely.) Mr Munir had offered to arrange the wazwan experience on board at special prices but we did not have the heart to venture after the regular dinner experience. Mahindra team please do something about the food destroying the super experience at this beautiful property. Last but not the least. Mr Faizal the caretaker was helpful and enthusiastic. But the sight of him sleeping till 8 AM the drawing room ( probably lack of other options) specially when the guests are up at 6 AM is very unappetising.
Breath taking Kashmir

The houseboat is wonderful. Centrally located. Its in Dal lake. You get to witness beautiful scenic beauty at each glance. The staff is extremely cordial. They say no to nothing. Everything is possible. We got lovely home cooked meal for all the three nights that we stayed in Kashmir. The food was sumptuous with lots of love (home cooked meal). They will cook you anything you want. This meal was always the best part of the day. Since we were travelling around the whole day the only food in the afternoon we got in those tourist places was maggie.... So the home cooked meal was a blessing. The houseboat is not a mahindra property, its been taken on lease by them. However they have maintained it decently. Its clean. You have hot water supply anytime of the day. They have shikara (taxi) to pick you from the Dal lake and bring you to the houseboat. They wonderfully explain you their rules and guidelines on the day you arrive and serve you Khawa tea (which is like amazing. Believe me because I do not consume tea at all). Special recommendation and thanks to Salim Bhai (care taker), Abdul Salam (Shikara rider) and the Lovely lady cook.
Boats on ghat 17 offer better view than the one's on ghat 13. Choose a room at the rear side of the boat which offer more privacy.
