Reason For Rating : Well maintained house boat. Food was good. The hosts were very accommodating and me and my daughter enjoyed. Location was serene. It was cosy and warm inside, even though it was a sub zero temperature in December end.

The stay at this houseboat was very comfortable and satisfactory. The interior of the houseboat and property as such was amazing itself, but the real beauty of staying at this houseboat was the hospitality offered by Mr. Ishak (Manager) and the in house staff. They treated us as their own family members and left no stone unturned to make us feel comfortable like home. The pleasant view of the Nigeen Lake adjoining the Dal lake, with a panaromic view of the valley, the placid water of the lake mirroring the sky, mountains and foliage, reminding vividly that Kashmir is a Paradise on earth. I must add that the access to the Boat being limited by a Shikara alone further adds to the enjoyment of living totally in the Lake. It was a home away from home experience. We had very good meals right inside the houseboat, and the service was excellent. The houseboat is very neat, clean and cozy with beautiful furniture. It has a nice beautiful living and dining room. The best part is when you come to this boat as a stranger and you leave as a family. The hospitality is awesome. Thanks again for such a great hospitality and services !!!

The Gurkha Houseboat was a remarkable experience. It stands true to its name and gives you a homely feeling. Just like home there are vendors who knock your door in a 'Shikara' for selling beautiful Kashmiri stuff. This on water shopping along with the traditional Kashmiri interiors of the boat, homely welcome and hospitality makes it a place worth staying! A must visit for all those who visit Kashmir!

We were on the last leg of our Kashmir trip and we had roughed it out at Yousmarg, daksum and chatpal.I wanted the last day at Srinagar to be memorable for my family. I had booked the Gurkha heritage houseboat and it was one of my best decisions of my Kashmir trip. The agent, driver, everyone kept saying why do you want to stay on the Nigeen lake and not on the Dal. I am so glad I did, the lake is Serene and pristine, the houseboat Royal and beautiful. We were greeted by Maqbool chacha with the usual kashmiri hospitality we had so gotten used to. And he looked as Royal as the houseboat. We were shortly joined by Isaaq, a wonderful host, very articulate and well read. We had some interesting conversation and then we were off to the shikara ride.. a three hour long ride, absolutely stunning against the backdrop of the setting sun. Back to the houseboat for a lovely dinner. One can just laze around in the huge living room or sit out watching the still waters with quiet all around. Next morning was equally beautiful with again a lavish breakfast and a few hours spent watching the boats and the lake. The only regret I have is I wish we had spent more time..
