Predominant in religious, historic and cultural value, Srirangapatna is a beautiful river island enclosed by the Kaveri River in Karnataka. The name of the city is derived from the famous Ranganathaswamy Temple which was built during the 9th century. The temple boasts of exquisite architecture and it is one of the most important Vaishnavite pilgrim centres in South India. The surrounding waters of the Kaveri River is considered holy and people from far and wide come here to immerse the ashes of the departed and perform obsequies for their ancestors. Srirangapatna tourist places include a number of temples like the Panduranga Swamy Temple, Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple, Jyothi Mahaswara Temple, Sathyanarayana Swamy Temple, Bidhcotta Ganesha Temple, Ayyapa Temple, Gangadhareswara Swamy Temple and the Anjunaya Swamy Temple.
The Masjid-e-ala mosque built during Tipu Sultan's rule is one of the most popular places to visit in Srirangapatna. Bunches of grapevines and other creepers can be found inside the mosque.
