The AC room with view advertised was not available: the only view was onto an internal lightwell above the kitchen. A nice light room at first-floor level and an open terrace, overlooking the quiet greenspace next door, which would have been very pleasant, are not accessible to all visitors. But the hotel is off a quiet lane, near the canalised river, beside some greenspace and a pretty historic house - some welcome relief from busy central Thanjavur. The staff are friendly and helpful, the building well kept and attractive, with good WiFi available in the lobby.

Lovely peaceful place with many trees around it and a garden full of plants in pots. Price very reasonable and staff friendly and very helpful. Restaurant reasonable. The sights were easily accessible.

We three British guys arrived off a train at 16:00hrs on a Thursday, reserved tickets for the next day's train (a much more civilised than buses and coach's dramas) and traipsed off on the direction of HV once again entering the chaotic unlaned disciplined world of India as we tried to cross the junction with motorbikes beeping and coming from all directions on the wrong sides of the road, cutting corners and using pedestrian crossings/gaps in railings. Eventually we found a sign on a lamppost pointing down the sidestreet lined with mechanics and other engineering facilities. In the distance on the left we saw the sign, by an old classic house.....enticing....but we thought what about the facilities....ooooer...then we saw the modern hotel, obviously with all facilities!! We asked to have and see an A/C room for three 1555+200 for extra person (double with extra bed) and we were taken along the corridor, up the lift along the corridor to room 206. The room was quite spacious, easily enough for the extra bed, clean, A/C plus fan, largish CRT TV, raffia blinds on windows, hooks in room (hurrah), cupboard with no hooks (booh), chair, coffee table, phone, only three sockets for device charging (booh, but one was by the bed - hurrah). A mosquitoes repelling device was plugged into the third socket with the diffusing tablet in. Showerroom had a proper fixed shower (two taps and hot water promised for the morning - did not really happen btw), clean, dirty mirror (cheap places just don't do clean mirrors, I cleaned it up) over sink but good enough light to shave and jet from tap to clean shaver. Later on there was a distinct smell of stale urine in the showerroom (not ours) which I dispensed with using the bottom sprayer to flush down all the toilet in this wet room (drain in corner as usual), easily dine, smelt much better after. Closeable window but no mesh so close before dusk!! There is a terrace and washing line for hanging washed clothes, sometimes locked. Roof terrace had interesting views. This is not next to a municipal dump! No wifi in the room or corridor so in the late evening (after a stressful visit to the centre and a meal at Sathars) we logged into the reception (and restaurant) wifi to catch up. I found the hotel and restaurant on TA and read (possibly fake) reviews about noise and location re municipal waste site. Breakfast was adequate in Lingum Restaurant, stark and functional. Bill was 210 for the three of us. Overall decent value for money but could do with a bit of tlc and maintenance.

Friendly service and bucolic, tranquil atmosphere make for a pleasant stay, albeit the room rate (750 for a single / non A-C) may have been slightly steep given what's on offer elsewhere (especially with no Internet available in any rooms). The pleasantness of the surroundings, however, and convenience to the railways station made it worth it.
