Tarapith is a temple town situated on the banks of the Dwarka River, in the Birbhum district of West Bengal. The Tarapith Temple is known by the name Tarapith because, according to mythology, this is the place where the eyeball or ‘tara’ of Goddess Parvati fell after she performed Sati and Lord Shiva was carrying her to Mount Kailash.
