The House of Blue Mangoes is a small homestay managed by the very friendly and polite owner Bobby. The rooms are very clean and everything is taken care for propperly. It has a nice veranda with a beautiful view on the coffee plantations behind the house. The family offers cocking classes, coffee from their own plantation and tours around the area. I made two great trips with bobby which have been the highlight of my stay in Thekkady.

The room was perfect, simple but very clean and with a mosquito net. Also really nice balcony with a hanging wicker chair that was ideal to chill out drinking tea on in the early evening. The real highlight is the cooking class with Bobby's mother and being invited to join the family for food on Sunday. The cooking class more consists of joining in as she cooks and chatting away with the family before then sitting down for dinner. This was a real authentic highlight of our trip so far (2 weeks into a 3 month trip) and we can't recommend this guesthouse enough.

We stayed at the house of blue mangoes for 2 days only to wish that our stay could have been longer. Our host, Pritika was very accommodating and the facilities provided by her were very good.:) The staff here is very humble and very nice and the rooms are well maintained. There's a beautiful garden at the back of the compound which makes for a very quaint and quiet evening. We'll be looking forward to our next trip here.

The location is awayfrom the mainstreet with view on the coffee plantation. This allowed us to occasionaly spot langur monkeys from the balcony. The staff is friendly and helpful. Good wifi. The room is cheap, clean and basic. The thin matras allows for little comfort, but you get what you pay for. Hot water is only available from the tap or bucket, but not from the shower. We used this room as we were doing different trekking programs in periyar. One thing we missed was that we could only pay cash, which wqs difficult during that time due to the money crisis in india. Overall, clean, cosy, cheap.

Blue mangoes is set back away from the typically noisy main street, on the edge of Periyar reserve. Peaceful and beautiful views of the trees and wildlife that abounds, all from a lovely veranda. A perfect place to base yourself for a few days of relaxation before heading further a field. Well worth the money! I will be back.
