What's Good: Pathetic... after staying at Nirmaaya this pathetic property was the vacation spoiler.

While there are so many Plantation Villas that keep popping up every now and then, Mayapott Bungalow is one of a kind. There are only 3 rooms and it is a Bungalow more than a hotel or homestay. You get a lovely Chef for yourself who whips all kind of killer local dishes as per your request. The property itself is nestled within a jungle and built into the Rocky hills and boulders. If you are looking for a Tranquil place to chill with your loved one in a place still not invaded by loud tourists, look no further LOCATION: Not too far from Thekkady town, but secluded from any nearby restaurants/cafes or shops DINE + DRINK: Nothing fancy. No bar or serious restaurant. Only a Dining room and a nice outdoor lounge area with a couple of tables. But if you bring your own alcohol, a great place to chill while listening to the various tunes that the restless birds keep humming all around you. Such a welcome break from the honks and noises of the traffic in the city. And Chef Bobby is a treasure of Kerala! He makes such good food that can rival any fine dining restaurant in the state! So you are all set. ROOM: I stayed in the room overlooking the lounge area, so this review is based on that; VIEW: View of the rocks and creek below ; SIZE: Very spacious room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: SEmi Al fresco, Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Bring your own, as nothing fancy is offered. FACILITIES: be prepared for a Pure Kerala Chillout mode! No Gym on site. The pool is nothing but a typical Plunge pool you get in some villas/suites. SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to JOBI - the manager and the Chef Bobby. HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Very slow speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. NO Television in the room, so it is a perfect way to Unplug from the rest of the world and connect with your loved ones!

If you intention is to do nothing, eat good food and take rest, then this place is ideal. Villa is an architectural marvel; blended well with nature. The rooms are spread providing enough privacy for each family. Chef available to ensure good food. Location is not exactly thekkady; but 40-60minutes drive from thekkady towards kattappana. A small pool where kids can spend time. I wish the pool to be little bigger. A stream starts right from the site and is awesome. Manager showed us the video of the water gushing inside the site during rainy season. It might be worth experiencing it during monsoon. You can visit Idukki dam which is almost 1.5hrs drive from this place. No other tourist places nearby worth spending time. But the intent you stay here should not be to spend time traveling to nearby places; just be there with nature; relax, relax and relax....

I don't like to write a review such as this but the fact of the matter is that this property is awful. It is run down and desperately needs upgrading. Our hearts sank when we arrived and saw the place. Not recommended.

A hidden gem and arguably one of the best plantation resorts/nature retreats in the region. Recently stayed during our family summer holidays. Great location, clean & well kitted rooms, fantastic surroundings, the designer/architect seem to have done great job in blending the property to the nature and making use of the natural elements to enhance the experience. Very friendly and helpful team who accommodated every request and special dietary needs for kids. Tasty/fresh local delicacies were appreciated. The kids had a very enjoyable time too exploring the surroundings and the planation. Certainly one for their memory box. A place where you can unwind and recharge. We must come back in couple of years.

This is my fourth trip to Mayapottu in as many years. With friends once and then with family. Mayapottu is no ordinary place. The craft of the owner, who is an architect, is palpable in the way the whole residence gets seamlessly integrated with the landscape. It is wild, tree hugging and solitude personified. You are in the middle of a cardamom plantation where nature is at its best, wild. So welcome the rhythm of the stream that becomes a roaring waterfall during the monsoon (I was fortunate this time to enjoy it), the chirp and shriek of the birds, the wild howl of the animals or the curious onlookers, the monkeys. I enjoyed good food, decent dwelling and a good sleep during all my visits. I like it here because I can switch off. I believe when you are on the edge, its good to be stranded. Let the fate handle the outcome. Let loose. I do not want to know what is happening with Trump, Catalonia, North Korea or Kim Kardashian. I do not want to fight with my son for the remote control. I do not want to fret over poor internet connectivity because I cannot be a narcissist for a couple of days without facebook, twitter or whatever social media. This is no place if you want a white glove service. You cannot get heated pool, champagne or caviar or sabayon. You can get good food, read a book lying in a hammock, dip in the cold pool or play with your loved ones in the stream. My son, though wary in the beginning enjoyed every bit on one of the visits, even volunteering to go on the hiking trip. If you want to get away from the madness of the city or if you want to take your kids away from their clinical boundaries of trained trees and topiaries, manicured lawns and borrowed security take then take them to these places. I never took an initiative to write about this property on tripadvisor after so many visits, but after my last visit I thought it would not be fair if I do not post my opinion. So in a nutshell if you want to get close to the nature and enjoy the wilderness for a change go to Mayapottu. If you want creature comfort, I recommend Four Seasons or Ritz carlton reserve as starters.
