The resort is pretty small & the property is not well maintained at all. The moment you step inside you are welcomed by 2 dangerous things: A whole bunch of Mosquitoes & A whole bunch of Unprofessional Staff; both ready to spoil your holiday experience. We had an extremely bitter experience during our stay right from the day we arrived until the day we checked out. Although we had made our requirements very clear at the time of booking (with regards to the number of people coming in) we were allocated rooms which could not accommodate all of us & because of this we were asked to additionally pay for my accompanying child (all this after we arrived at the resort). Due to the above unprofessional approach we even decided not to check-in the resort at all; however we were given a false assurance from the front office staff (Ms. Asha) that the things will be resolved before our check-out & that it is a matter of internal discussion between them & their booking team. Nevertheless, that internal discussion never happened till the day i checked out & i was forced to pay the amount as demanded by them (another approach of daylight cheating). To further add to the above misery, the resort does not employ much staff as you won't find anybody responsible at many places. Activity Room was left un-managed every time we visited. Restaurant had a deserted look with a stingy smell as if not cleaned & used in a decade. Bathrooms are filthy with water leaking from most of the taps & showers. The beds & linen are dirty with stains (as if never washed after use). The Travel Desk staff is not proactive at all as we had to approach them multiple times in order to obtain basic inputs. Housekeeping staff is lethargic; i ordered for bottle of water couple of times & it took them more than 1 - 2 Hours to bring it in the room. Most importantly, the front office staff (specially Ms. Asha) is extremely violent, unprofessional, unapologetic & unaccommodating. She does not deserve to be doing the job which has been assigned to her. She has a very high temper & does not know how to deal with customer requirements at all. As none of my family members was really enjoying their stay here we decided to even cut-short our stay by 1 night & checked-out earlier than planned. Even on the day of check-out we were given a hard time by the front office staff wherein they were not ready at all to adjust the 5% service charge + the corresponding GST which they apply by default on all the bills they generate. Being a member of sterling these charges are optional for the guest to pay; hence i denied to pay anything due to the pathetic service as received by me. However the staff try to play smart by removing only the service charge amount & not the tax charged on top of it; this was the height of unethical & unprofessional behavior on their part hence i asked to speak with their GM in order to discuss the said subject in a detailed manner. To my surprise i was informed that the GM is out of town & not currently available. Nevertheless to end this misery i decided to hunt for the right person & his contact details myself & found out that the GM (Mr. Shyju) was actually available within the resort. He was very humble & genuine to listen openly to our feedback & later apologized for the extremely bad experience we encountered & also agreed to look into the details of this experience & agreed to adjust the GST part as well. But overall, i would not recommend anyone to visit/stay in this place & to better stay in the adjoining properties (Mahindra Resorts) which are in a much better shape & provide a much-much better service & experience. Lastly, if you see Ms. Asha at the front desk; be sure to have protection around you as she is violent like hell.

The resort is a bit old on the first looks of it, but the wooden structure carries some kind of nostalgic feel to it as you get a bit accustomed in a couple of hours, and the staff more than makes up for what may be missing with their warm demeanour ... The 50 odd rooms resort has swimming pool and well appointed restaurant, and enough smiles of the staff to keep you cheerful through your stay ... It is in very close reach undertake a day long visit to Periyar Tiger reserve, and it is an absolute bliss to go to the Periyar Lake ... Its vast expanse keeps you constantly wondering about changing landscapes around you ... If you are lucky, you mak=y wind up seeing group of elephants in the grasslands surrounding the lake, we could see huge bunch of Bysons ... You can plan for a meal in the Restaurants at Periyar House, or if one can afford a stay, Lake Palace is highly recommended bang in the middle of the Periyar Lake ... It is highly recommended to go for evenings to the Kalaripayattu & Katahkali shows which carry same authenticity as performed by the local artists over the years, perhaps decades ... Thekkady is the place to be at!!
