For over 40 years now, I have travelled the world, as a tour guide, for business and for leisure. I stayed at luxury properties that were luxurious as described, as well as in simple homestays where the bathroom was stained by mold and the hot water insistently cold. Just as expected, not much to report or brag about. My recent stay at Bethsaida Hermitage, however, was such an exceptionally nice one that the world must know it. While the room, public areas and food were as expected -and the value high for the money-, it is the staff and general feeling that makes it different, in the best possible way and in the smallest details. From the very first day, their motto totally makes sense: feels like coming home. Particular praise and thanks go to Dr. Shaniyaz and all Ayurbirth healing center staff, for having been so attentive and caring. Well be back

We stayed at Bethsaida Hermitage for 2 weeks in early November. We were here for the Ayurveda wellness program. I can't comment on the program aspects since it was my first time and I have nothing to compare to. I spoke to others in this program who did have some previous experiences, and they highly rated the Bethsaida program. I will just take their word on that. My overall impression was very positive. What I will comment on was the facility. First and foremost is the truly incredible staff. In all of my years of traveling all over the world, I have never been treated better. All aspects of staff engagement was just outstanding plus. The complex is not too large and is spread out along the coast. Many of the rooms have a sea view (highly recommended). The grounds are very nicely landscaped and meticulously maintained. It was an absolute pleasure to sit on our front terrace and watch the surf and local fishing fleet at work. The whole facility is smoke, drug, and alcohol free. (There is a small smoking porch though.) In keeping with the Ayurveda program, the restaurant is totally vegetarian. Meals are served buffet style, organized by the diet regime recommended for each participant. The daily menu is varied and very tasty. You will not go hungry, nor will you notice the absence of meat. Two days a week there is entertainment during the dinner hours. During the first 2 weeks of November we had mostly sunny or partly cloudy. There were however a couple of days of torrential rain, and a couple of more days of off and on showers. Bring an umbrella. There is strong WiFi signal in the complex, but data speed is quite variable. Don't count on being able to stream anything but VOIP worked most time. There are mosquitoes here! Bring your repellent!! The staff will provide electric repellent for your room if desired. There are a number of tours offered through reception at a very reasonable price. Something might interest you. Within walking distance or short rickshaw ride is ample shopping to fill your return trip suitcase. Leave some extra room when packing. This facility was one of the most quiet, peaceful, and serene places I have visited. I really wasn't ready to leave after the 2 week program.

This was actually a last resort for us as we could not get a booking in any of the popular properties here. However, we were more than delighted by the property, the amazing views and superb staff at the resort. We did not have time to try out the therapies, but the Ayurvedic food was great, so was the regular food. The property is huge and sprawling with access to what is like a private beach. The only thing you need to be careful about is that you get a room with AC as the sea breeze is not good enough with the heat of Kerala. Also, this is not really near the Kovalam beach.

We keep coming back to Bethsaida Hermitage because it is absolutely unique. They've held or improved their high standards for years now. And now we discovered how pleasant the climate is in the off-season in August. The profit generated in this resort is used for a number of charitable projects in the area. We enquired and were able to visit a school, the girls orphanage and their farm (where the organic vegetables come from for the Ayurvedic food served at the resort). Staff are unfailingly friendly and attentive. I especially love the beautifully tended garden setting.

- Great place for an Ayurveda retreat - alone, single, couple, family - all is welcome here and since it is so big, no gets on each other's nerves - very friendly staff - skillful and educated doctors who take care of your health and well being even after your retreat with further advice and medicine treatment (all herbal, bin chemical) suggestions if needed - the massage staff is very kind and caring and make you feel home - much more amenities than one would expect such as: own cinema (you can probably use it privately, many movies to choose from), 2 pools, beauty salon, 2 shops, pharmacy, 3 yoga lessons per day and different levels - delicious cuisine - either strictly according to Ayurvedic doshas- or flexible or special diets, all is possible - beautiful resort and compound with amazing gardens - evening entertainment in the restaurant every second night (traditional music or plays) - airport pick up & transfer And for me one of the most appreciated facts - all profits of this resort are later invested into social projects (children school or orphanage or health care centers) - giving back to and integrating the communities is lived here like no where else! Thanks for the wonderful and inspiring time here!
