We recently stayed here on a trip to India & it was one of our absolute favourite hotels. Where to start......the building, the grounds, the vista, the staff, the food. We had a fantastic standard room the first night as the lake view rooms were booked, which was gorgeous & huge. Then we moved into the the gorgeous lake suite with all around windows onto the lake. The views were simply stunning. The staff were amazing & went out of their way to arrange a driver at short notice (minutes) at 5.30am in the morning to get us to the airport on time. We ate at Ambrai restaurant several times & the food was delicious. We didn't try the Ayurvedic treatments as we already had pre booked some for Goa, but we'll definitely be trying next time as we plan to return with more family members, this time for longer!

this hotel is beautiful in that its position is amazing and the building is beutiful but it is sadly just tired and the staff refelect that. There are so many amazing hotels in Udaipur with great lake views that if i was to go again i would spend the extra money and stay somewhere like the Leela palace or if the budget can stretch that far, the Taj lake palace. I relaise they are in a different cost bracket but if you are only doing one or two nights in the twon it is worth the extra spend.

We spent three nights here at the end of four weeks travelling in India and were concerned, having read some recent reviews, that it might disappoint. Our local travel agents did have a word with the hotel before we arrived and we were relieved by the pleasant welcome on our arrival and to find that we had been allocated the Maharajah suite. It was a huge room with wonderful views over the lake, plenty of luggage and clothing space and a very comfortable bed. One or two of the previous comments about the bathrooms seem justified. Considering this was supposed to be one of their top rooms, the bathroom towels were grey and thin (not dirty, just old) and old soap and toiletries had been left in the shower. I did struggle with the hot water at first, but soon learnt that if I let the shower run for about five minutes, there was plenty of hot water. We were also pleasantly surprised by the Ambrai restaurant. We had asked for a reservation earlier, and a table for two, right on the lake was ready for us. The waiters were friendly and happy to help us with our food choices. (Spoilt for choice, really, with an extensive menu). The food was really tasty, too. The next morning, at breakfast, (which was good, if a tad underwhelming: jams in plastic tubs, thin paper napkins, etc) we were approached by a very pleasant gentleman who, after a chat, turned out to be from the spa and proceeded to tell us a little about what the spa offered. We weren't hassled at all and I later decided to try an Ayurvedic ENT treatment for my sinuses, which was very effective. Undoubtedly the Amet Haveli is a lovely building, with attractive gardens and a terrific position. I do feel that it sets its sights too low, however. With fresh towels, nicer toiletries, clean waiters' uniforms, fresh table linen and a bit of in-house training it could be amazing.

This hotel rescued us from a nightmare. The online booking I'd made at another property was a disaster. We couldn't even stand sitting in the room. As I looked out dejectedly from the balcony wondering what in the world I was going to do for my family I spotted a patch of emerald green and white marble at the water's edge. Walking into Amet Haveli's courtyard you realize it embodies every bit of magic you envision of India. Beautiful architecture, breathtaking water views and restful, cooling, green grounds. The rooms are individually unique and offer their own allure and escape as special as Udaipur itself. And the ultimate romantic evening is to dine at the Ambrai restaurant. We were so impressed we stayed not once but twice and had they the availability, would have stayed the whole visit and longer. When we return this will be the only choice.
