I have visited Varanasi on Oct'15 with my family. We all were very exited about our Varanasi trip since this is the first time we were visiting Varanasi. After a long research over Internet, I have booked "Baba lolark PG" from makemytrip. Though i was having some doubts about it by seeing some horrible reviews. i have chosen it somehow keeping it's location in mind(since it's on the Ganga ghat itself). When we reached the hotel i must say that i have never seen such mismanagement in any hotels (i am a tour guy and often visited many places). The reception guy was uneducated , he asked for identity card. I told him that i haven't carried the Xerox copy so he took my original pan card and told that he will copy it and give it to me right after that.He took it and kept it inside the drawer. There was a room just opposite to the reception (on your left once you headed towards the stairs), a group of unknown peoples were sitting inside and they were staring at us with very strange eyes ( i don't know why) ! I find it very embarrassing. Now the next disaster begins , the stairs were so narrow ans steep that you can't even carry your hand bag while passing ;if you have older members with you then forget about it (you will risk his/her life). With all these disappointments, it's not worth mentioning about the rooms. But since i am writing the review, i must mention about it. The rooms were horrible especially the wash-room. You will loose your privacy inside the wash-room , it had a open hole above and you can't do anything !! After a small discussion with my family members, we decided to leave the hotel and search another one in the next day (since its already evening). Now the last surprise was waiting for us while leaving the hotel, we were is hurry and i told the reception guy to return my pan card, he opened the drawer and it was not there !!!! I was totally lost . I was't carrying any other identity card. He started searching it in every possible places but unable to find it. I was almost cried. My family advised me to go to the police station and report against this hotel. But the guy was almost crying and begging at me. He called another guy who was at the reception last night. He came after 20 mins. They started searching it again and found it inside the room just opposite to the reception ( which i have mentioned at the beginning). We were almost exhausted. I took my card and escaped from the hotel imminently. In summary, we were almost trapped in this hotel. I would never suggest this hotel to anyone.

A very bad experience : dirty room and bathroom, very bad isolation : a lot of noise, room whithout a window and it was very cold inside, there wasn't a garden as I read before to go. I don't recommend at all.

I booked a "Deluxe Double Room with River View" and room doesn't match with detailed description given on Booking.com. Good points: . Rooms have nice view on river Ganges . Fridge inside rooms . Beds are ok Bad points: . AC is very noisy . Seating area and sofa: unlike description, there is no seating area, certainly not a sofa. There are 2 uncomfortable chairs, but if you keep them in room, you could hardly walk around the bed (we put them on the balcony). . Coffee machine: unlike description, there is no coffee machine in room. . Balcony: we had one, but it was almost completely occupied by AC, so not really useful. Furthermore the balcony faces city (and not river). The friends I was travelling with booked the same room but had no balcony though they paid same rate. . Wifi: it was not working at all during my stay. I could get the signal and log on while going down 2 floors, but I could never access internet. . Garden: unlike description there is no garden where you could stay (or very well hidden). . Room service: there is no phone in room, so you can not really rely on room service. . 24-hours front desk: in fact hotel is closing doors at 10 or 11pm, then you will have to call an employee by phone in order to get back to your room which is in a separate building. . Bed linen: there was only one bedsheet to cover the matrass but no bedsheet to cover yourself (but a blanket). . You have to step up 4 steep floors to get to your room. . You don't feel in a guesthouse/hotel as a family is living on the 3 first levels of the guesthouse. When you come late at night, people are sleeping on the floor around in the entrance. Moreover the family living here is not very welcoming: they never answered when i said hello and looked at me unpleasantly. In conclusion rooms are overpricey and not worth the 2200 INR (35 US $ / 28 ) asked for and I do not recommend you to stay here.

I arrived in Varanasi in the scorching summer heat of April last year. The auto guy who dropped me at the hotel knew the shortest possible way to reach the hotel. I had initially booked it through a website for 2 days as I wasn't sure of how it would be when I get there considering I got the room for very cheap. The guest house is for those who are on a tight budget and will spend very less time staying inside the hotel. The first two days I stayed at a from on the first floor which was very spacious for 1 person and the bathroom was okay as well, though I had to ask a few times for an extra pillow. After that, i had an option to shift to another room on the ground floor but I chose to stay on another makeshift cabin by the roof. It was my dumbest decision as it got really hot during the day and without any hesitation the reception staff Vinay moved me to another room on the ground floor. The room was equally spacious and very clean and basic. Vinay was very helpful and accommodating as I often asked him for tea and toasts every now and then and he never said no. I ended up staying there for a week. In the last couple of days I ate dinner at the guest house and since I told him that I like to eat a little late he made sure that he got my dinner prepared on the time I wanted. i also fell sick a bit because of the heat and because I was coming from a very cold weather in Darjeeling, and Vinay and his helper assisted me by getting me medicines and warm water every now and then. Last but not the least, the wi-fi was free since I used it on my laptop and since I needed to work until late night they kept it on for me to work and had showed me how i could turn it off whenever I was going to bed. Also, the hotel is located right on banks of the river and you just have to walk down a few stairs to find yourself standing on the river bank.So, if I go to Varanasi again I will probably be staying at the same place.

The hotel was nothing more than ok; spacious rooms, a half-decent restaurant and close to the Ganges. The hot water only worked once after that it was lukewarm, fine after a walk along the ghats. The beds are very hard and the mattress is paper thin, plus no bed linen apart from a sheet. It was difficult to find and the hotel pick up service doesn't work all that well if you book online but rickshaw drivers seem to know the area. The manager (the taller, broader one who wears a crucifix), on the other hand, is a deceitful chancer who spends his day pushing tours, buses etc and generally trying to squeeze every rupee he can from you. It began the moment we checked in and continued right up until we checked out, when he mysteriously disappeared despite owing us a few rupees and a transfer to the station. Whatever you do, don't book anything through 'his' company as he just wants the commission for taking you to the nearest travel agent. He had been going on and on about how there were no hotels for Westerners in Allahabad (not true) so we thought we'd see what the company could offer us. When we arrived, we were spun some yarn about how Westerners got leered at and even groped on the public buses and insisted we went on a tourist bus. They gave us no time to confer and stupidly, really unlike us actually, we fell for it and booked a tourist bus to Allahabad through them, and not only were we massively overcharged, but we were actually just booked onto an ordinary public bus. On arriving at the bus station (a nightmare to find as the ticket had the wrong address on and was written in English so no one could read it) no one seemed to know what our ticket was, who the company were and it was our own luck and persistence that got us to Allahabad and back. Back at the hotel, he tried to almost treble the cost of a meal we had in the hotel restaurant, AFTER we'd just finished eating it, claiming his chef wasn't in so he'd had to get it from a nearby restaurant. When we refused, he tries to argue that we were liable for the cost but the look on our faces soon made him back down. The other member of staff was much more helpful and friendly but couldn't make up for his partner's greed. Overall, if you can find somewhere else, go there instead as the manager just isn't worth the bother.
