We feel very lucky to have found this place. The location is perfect, right across the street from the Assi Ghat, though the street is so narrow our vehicle had to park a block away. Helpful hotel staff carried our bags, even though we arrived at 4 am due to a delayed train. The hotel is an old mansion, terraced up the river bank, so stairways are involved everywhere you go, but they open into lovely courts on every level, paved in marble and filled with flowering plants. We had early morning coffee overlooking the river with the sound of prayers and yoga rising from the ghat. Our rooms were located behind open air galleries with tables and chairs for conversation; we met artists and intellectuals as well as tourist like ourselves from all over the globe. The food is home cooked, tasty and plentiful; the rooms are old fashioned, furnished with antiques and filled with art but shy on modern conveniences. If you can play "Where is an outlet?' and "How does this bathroom work?" with good cheer while enjoying the peace and beauty of a family's heritage, then this is the place for you. We felt like honored guests here.

Stayed here for 4 or 5 nights last week and it was an amazing place to stay. Staff were so friendly and helpful; food was great; location was perfect for access to Assi Ghat (less than 20 seconds walk and youre there); the hotel itself is beautifully decorated with paintings and other sculptures. Overall an amazing stay here and I will definitely come again.

This hotel, a converted residence, is located in the heart of Varanasi. Varanasi is one of the most colorful places that we have visited in India--it is teeming with masses of people, cows and dogs in the streets, hawkers, beggars, and pilgrims making their way to the Ganges. It is the area where all of your senses are stimulated at once. The hotel is very near the Ganges and outside there are homeless who sleep on the street, barking dogs and stalls. The rooms were relatively small. Ours was located facing the street and it was pretty noisy most of the night. The staff were very nice and friendly and were helpful. They prepared a vegetarian dinner for us, which was tasty. The breakfast was continental with cereal, coffee and sweet rolls. We chose this hotel for its location and knew that it was not going to be luxurious, and since we only stayed one night, we felt that we had made the right decision. We would not have chosen this for more than one or two nights.

I found this hotel on trip advisor and made a booking for 2 nights through the link they provided, paying in advance and they charged my credit card. After one full day and right before my trip I got a call saying it has been cancelled, not at all reliable. Spoiled my holiday.

I booked this hotel for 2 nights from 11th to 13th november, paid in advance a non refundable fee and got a last minute call after 24 hours that my booking has been cancelled, leaving me with no accomodation just before my trip. Don't risk it!
