There are a lot of hotels/guest houses with similar names but this one is really good. It is a family-run hotel and the staff is very kind and friendly. The rooms are spartan and maybe not the cleanest and the mattresses are of the thinner kind but we really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are spacious, ours had a balcony with a beautiful view of the Ganges. The bathroom is spacious too, with the toilet on a platform higher than the one where the shower is. The location is good, very near to the ghats (and not the busiest most crowded ghats, but the calmer in between). The hotel offers free WiFi and are very welcoming, write down their phone number and get your rickshaw driver to call them, they will meet you up and escort you through the narrow lanes where rickshaws can't drive. They are also very keen to keep you safe and locks the gates at 10 pm. All in all, a pleasant stay but the staff really tops it off.

This was the 2nd time we had stayed at Lord vishnu a guest house. Having emailed the night before the had they gave us the room we had the previous year. The property has had a fresh lick of paint, and was the comfortable and quiet as last time albeit the neighbourhoods noise in build up to holy. Prahbu and Bahpu were their ever hospitable selves as to their family. The location remains our favourite spot nestled atop BuaPandey Ghat.

Rooms are very basic and overpriced; grotty and dark and not clean. The place is mentioned in the Lonely Planet and the owner charges whatever price he can rip the people off for, but there are much nicer budget places around. Staff is rude and not interested, just lazing around. Only the view is nice but can have elsewhere.

Enjoyed staying here much. Guess its best place, for such price. Clean and quiet. Hosts are very nice and always helpful, giving advises about prices and places. From rooftop and second floor balcony is Ganga view. Very good courtyard, where guests can sit and socialized, so staying here was very nice. Has direct exit to the ghats.

One night here turned into 16, had we not had jobs to return to my wife and I would have happily stayed months on end. Tucked away behind the Vishnu Rest house (next to the Laundry Ghat), Lord Vishnu Rest House is a humble, calm home away from home. Surrounded by alley ways of wild life, large monkey filled trees and a miniature dairy farm we spent hours chatting in the court yard watching the antics of ferrets darting by, monkeys flying pass, water buffalo, cows and rosters peaking their head in. Lord Vishnu's is a special place, the owners are welcoming, caring and thoughtful no hustle bustle, full shanti. We met some great travellers hear both foreign and Indian all of whom stayed for 3 5 weeks. Close enough to the action far enough from the noise. The rooms are basic, airy and clean, the mattresses are cotton which keep you cool in the summer's heat. The ground floor rooms are huge, helicopters for fans (no speed control) the 1st floor rooms fans have speed control. No AC rooms, AC is bad anyway. The rooms were also the best priced we found they don't deal with touts. You will pay a higher price if you book online due to all the booking fees and taxes they get stung with. I recommend calling them in advance or dropping them an email. There is roof top access for your personal use - yoga, meditation, kite flying. They plan to open a Restaurant next year serving French/Indian cuisine. They do have a 10pm curfew for your safety and ask that you inform them if you will be late, this is for your own well-being and so they dont worry if you dont turn up. It's also a community atmosphere and drugs are not permitted so if you are in Varanasi to get wasted and drink bhang lassi every day, this is not the place for you. Please respect that. If you are getting up early for the sunrise, make sure you tell them so the night watchman can open the gate for you.
