Me And my boyfriend was shown this place by a friend and ever since we spent everynight here. The staff are the most welcoming people we have ever met , they made us feel like family . The food is fresh and cooked with love and at affordable prices . The restaurant is on a rooftop that is decorated beautifully for a really relaxed pleasant atmosphere . Lastly we decided to leave our hotel we originally booked to stay at this place and the rooms are extremely spacious and clean (also at a very good price) if you ever get the chance to visit sankatha I highly recommend it , once you go then you will know ! Thankyou for making out visit to Varanasi extra special , we will be back !

I couldnt recommend eating on this relaxing terrace enough. I was made to feel extremely welcome by all staff. Javi (the manager) was especially welcoming. He clearly takes a huge amount of pride in leaving customers satisfied and this shows in how involved he is in the kitchen. The chilli paneer was one of the best dishes Ive had in India. The vegetables and spices were so fresh and the flavours very crisp. The terrace is a lovely place to relax where it is quiet and peaceful, yet you can still hear some of what is going on in the nearby ghats. I then met the owner on my way out of the restaurant and he was just as friendly and welcoming as all of the other staff at Sankatha.

Wonderful stay at the guesthouse! The staff is very helpful and sympathetic, they are charming. The retaurant, situated on an awesome rooftop, is delicious. Everything is cooked fresh and cleaned safely. On the first night, I had a tomato sandwich (bad idea for a foreigner). It was delicious and I didn't get sick. So happy about that! It is very close from some of the important ghats. Only bad side though :the closest is the burning ghat, where all the bodies are being cremated 24/7. That causes the air to be smokey in the middle of the day. It can also cause some discomfort to some people. Over all, I highly recommend!

My girlfriend and I would hang out on the roof of this hostel everyday during our stay in Varanasi. The staff was extremely welcoming even though we were not staying there. They provided us with great food, chai, wifi, and conversations. They even flew kites with us on the roof a couple times! This truly felt like our home base during our stay in Varanasi, and I would highly highly recommend giving these beautiful people your business.

This guest house is as close as you can get to the Burning Ghat where Hindus burn their dead on funeral pyres in celebration of the departed, on the banks of a swollen (today) river Ganges. The mighty Ganges floods this time of year which prohibits one from taking a boat (the current is very powerful) to look back at the amazing sight of the temples among the banks. The Sankatha is not for everyone, if you like more expensive hotels then go stay there. Cars/rickshaws cannot get to Sankatha, so the last 10 minutes is a walk. They will send porters to help carry everything. Manu is the laid back manager, you will find him in the tiny lobby perched on his chair, classic yoga legs and a constant smile, but up on the rooftop restaurant Ravi Gupta rules. He is affable and knowledgable, he will cook great food and help design your day. He has a network of friends that he utilises to do whatever your bidding is. Just know that the area is inhabited by sacred cows and feral dogs... oh and monkeys. The narrow alleyways are a little tricky because of the cows (poop) and the motorbikes that are either parked or coming at you horns blaring. But if that worries you then you better forget Varanasi and go to Goa or somewhere. You have to be in the spirit of the area's history, the oldest city in India. The rooms at Sankatha are basic, but are a backpackers delight, 'cos the price is right per night. Much needed A/C works well. Hot or cold water showers are just great depending on your temperature. The rooftop over looks the neighbourhood, it is a sight to behold especially when Ravi starts to explain the history. I will miss my meals on the rooftop. Thank you Ravi. Malvin
