Gumnut Beach House in Varkala is ideal for travellers delving for a relaxing stay. This place is easily accessible from railway station and other modes of transport. Sprawling amidst the stretch of two green cliffs, Varkala is famed for one of the most eye-pleasing beaches of Kerala.
The hotel property comprises a total of 6 large, well-furnished rooms that are equipped with basic amenities, such as a television and an attached bathroom. Gumnut Beach House offers equally decent hotel amenities.
A front desk is present in the property, to solve customer queries and travel counter to help plan one's day is there in the hotel premises.

We stayed at Gumnut by fortuitous accident! Rose, who runs it with her husband greeted us. when we turned up with no booking and gave my son and his friend a top floor ensuite room with a huge balcony and two double beds.I had a smaller though similar room for one night and then Rose moved me to an ensuite double room with a shared balcony and air con which was a godsend for me. Rose could not have been kinder, helping us with phone calls and giving us local advice, though perhaps the outstanding thing was her compassion for a difficult situation we were dealing with while we were staying. Neither did we feel crowded or having to explain more than was necessary. We also had use of a shared kitchen and a fridge (another godsend!) and there was filtered water on tap. Small details which made it a real comfort. The beach was a short walk through a local cafe/bar and down some steep steps or down the road.Really easy and convenient. Gumnut was spotlessly clean and I found myself coming in remarking "Oh I'm home now". That says it all. I'd recommend this Homestay to anyone wanting the quiet of the South Cliff at Varkala and with great cafes very close by. North Cliff is not far away.

Rose made me feel really welcome & she took care of me when I had food poisoning. The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean and quiet. I would definitely stay here again, great for solo travellers and couples. Value for money. Close to the beach and 30 seconds walk to the Soul & surf cafe.

Slightly unusual review as I didnt actually stay a night at Gumnut but I spent enough time with the owner, Rose, who was extremely understanding when I had issues at another property in Varkala and saw the rooms and spoke with other guests to know that this is a little gem of a homestay and will suit anyone who is looking for a relaxing and comfortable stay in Varkala. Its also located right next to Soul and Surf so is a great option if youre looking to do surf lessons, yoga, etc.

I stayed in the one bedroom, one bedder room with no balcony. The room was in good condition, with space to store clothes, a desk and keys to lock valuables, and a spacious bathroom with hot water (from friends in varkala i gathered that this is quite the luxury!) The guesthouse is 20meters from soul n surf which offers surf lessons, yoga classes and good food. A little bit further down the road is varkala beach, and you can find tuk tuks outside soul n surf to take you to the north cliff very easily. All in all, the location was great, the room was a steal at the price, and the owner of the homestay was really helpful and helped to arrange transport from the homestay to Trivandrum airport.

I had a wonderful one night stay at Rose's home stay. I stayed in the new AC room - the AC worked great. The room is simple but has all the amenities needed. Bed was comfortable. Entire place is very clean. There was a lovely balcony off of our room for extra space to hang out. It is located on the South Cliff but easy to walk to/from the North Cliff. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to returning!
