Check into V Resorts Bohemian Masala for a quiet, luxurious and rejuvenating break. Situated only 200 meters from the Varkala beach, this resort is geared towards promoting an eco-friendly existence with the surrounding environment.
With elements that are borrowed from the natural science of the tribal community, each of the 12 cottages are made from mud, clay and flowers, thereby ensuring that everything is in sync with the nature. While there are quite a few places to stay in Varkala, V Resorts Bohemian Masala offers a delightful experience that is truly unmatched.
Whether you want to explore the nearby temples, or unwind with soothing Ayurvedic treatments or just go on a food walk around the area, V Resort in Varkala has you sorted on all fronts. Spend your day lounging in the hammocks, gorging on local cuisines, and interacting with other travellers.
And once you have had your share of the resort and its facilities, head out to sandy shores of the beach, surf lessons and bright blue waters, that is slowly but surely increasing the popularity of Varkala in the minds of tourists, both locally and globally. V Resorts Bohemian Resort Varkala is also accessible via Varkala Railway Station which is 3 km far from the property.
Nearby attractions include Varkala Beach (2 km) and Janardanaswamy Temple (3 km). One can also reach this resort through Trivandrum International Airport (50 km).

A beautiful resort with wonderful setup and some amazing staff. The service was top notch and helped in every way possible to make our stay worthwhile. Cottage had all the amenities and the food was also of top quality while the rate was always affordable.

Bohemian masala is located in quite part of varkala away from the hustle n bustle of the cliff, but within walking distance of the cliff n the beach. Quaint tribal cottages and ample greenery is a welcome change bohemian has to offer, cashew and jackfruit trees and ample greenery surrounds the cottages. Ideal for travellers seeking solace n peace and occassional squirrels for company. Resort staff were polite and professional and extremely helpful . I had planned to stay for couple of nights but ended up staying for nearly a week enjoying the bohemian feel of the place and stepping out in evening to the beach n cliff at a walking distance from the resort. Cottages are cozy , they have a yoga hall and an in house restaurant as well and they provide ayurvedic treatments for travellers seeking rejuvenation . Overall for me it was a welcome change from the cliff front resorts and help me rejuvenate and find the much needed quieted and privacy I was seeking.

The resort was located in a very good area with easy access to black beach and the cliff. The rooms were well decorated and had a nice village touch very similar to what a normal Kerala village would look. The manager and the chef were mos accomodative and helped us. Only con was that the dry weather left the vegetation a little rusty but the rains can help

The V Resorts Bohemian Masala has recently undergone a change in ownership (The resort manger told us that they took over ownership of the property within the past 8 months). At this time it is unfit to be called a luxury resort as the entire property requires renovation, the grounds was overgrown with trees and weeds, serious attention needs to be paid to the hotel security and all of the additional onsite services listed were not available. Immediately upon our arrival I was told that I needed to pay for the entire 6 night stay in full. I booked this reservation by phone (not an internet booking) at no time during our phone conversion was I informed that full payment was mandatory upon arrival (The standard for hotels worldwide is to charge 1 nights room rate plus an additional amount as a deposit guarantee until check-out). After the issues I encounter during my stay and speaking with one of the staff, I know why full payment is mandatory, previous guest have refused to pay due to the same issues listed below. After payment was made at the front office, we were taken to our huts, The resort calls them cottages, these were a far cry from being classified as a cottage (I paid for 2 huts, as I was traveling with a friend). This resort is classified as a luxury resort, because of the that the Indian government charges an additional luxury tax. There is no way that this resort falls under the 5 star luxury resort classification. After full payment was made, we were then informed of the first 3 issues: - There was no hot water, only cold water in the huts. Instead there was one 'shower-hut' for the entire resort which had a small electric hot water tank, even with just my friend and I as the only guest, we never had a complete hot shower. - There was no power backup/backup generator, so although we had paid extra for air-conditioned huts, due to the daily and several hours long power outages, neither the air conditioner nor even the fan were usable for several long hot and humid hours of each day and night. - Additional services that one would expect at a luxury resort were not provided such as room service, Ayurveda and massages. Even though I enquired about these service when making my reservation and was told they were available. What the manager failed to state is you must find your own Ayurveda and massage clinic off property, as the resort clinic had been closed several months ago. The remaining issues listed below: The first hut I was placed in had a leaking roof. I had to spend the first night in a luxury hut with rain pouring in through the roof, and was only moved the next morning, as management left the property in the evening and doesnt return until the next morning. Heavy rains started in Varkala at approx. 8PM and continued all night. My personal belongs became wet from the roof leak, I had to send my clothing to the laundry, which the resort still charged me full price. Daily breakfast was included in the daily rate. The food at best was of mediocre quality, served lukewarm or cold, with instant coffee powder mixed with lukewarm milk for coffee. Eggs that were cold and appeared to have been fried the night before, no meat and hard stale bread. On our second day, November 20, 2017, at the Bohemian Masala, my friend and I knew we were paying a completely unfair price for the quality of accommodation and service we were getting, we spoke to the resort manger about our concerns, who then called the resort owner in New Delhi by phone. I informed the Owner of our concerns and issues then requested a refund for our remaining nights so we could move to a more suitable accommodation. The owner refused to give any refund. Instead, we each were offered one hour of Ayurvedic massage. We did take the offer for a 1-Hr massage. We expected to receive our massage off property since the resorts massage clinic was closed. We were told that we would receive our massages at 1:00PM the next day, November 21, 2017, on the property. The resort manager cleaned out 2 dirty treatment rooms and brought in 2 people to give our massages. It was quickly evident that the massage therapist were not trained and was simply rubbing oil on my skin. The therapist did not speak english, so the ability to communicate was not possible. I also have reason to believe that pictures were taken of me unclothed during my treatment as I would occasionally hear a clicking similar to the sound my iPhone makes when taking pictures. And when I would open my eyes to look at the therapist he would quickly place his cell phone in his pocket. The next and final issue is in regard to the complete lack of safety security at the resort: My friend and I were the only two guests at the resort. On the night of November 21, 2017, after midnight I heard foot steps from multiple people, accompanied by whispering, as they walked back and forth around my hut. Then, they approached my door, and the windows (the windows have no glass, not even a mosquito net, just a clay lattice with a large cloth hanging over it). The visitors whispered some more, and left 10-15 minutes later. In total they were walking around the grounds for almost 45 minutes. Due to the lack of power the phone didnt work (I found out the next day that none of the phones are operable with power). The next morning my friend and I realized we'd both had the same experience with people visiting our huts at night, we told the resort manager what had taken place during the night. He then told us that he had forgotten to warn us at check-in that there had been 'a few' instances where thieves visited neighboring hotels at night, knocked on doors, and 'caused trouble by attacking the guest when they opened the door and stealing their money ad passports. He then recommended that we call him should the situation repeat itself, and that we keep our doors closed at night if somebody knocks. This was tragically funny, since the phones didnt work and cell phone signals were not reliable. Although there are security cameras at the resort, the frequent and unpredictable power cuts (and the lack of backup power) render them useless. There was no video from the night of the incident to verify what happened. Needless to say, we didn't feel safe with no security staff on site, no security cameras working reliably, and with the understanding that there was a good chance the thieves would revisit our secluded, quiet 'luxury' resort with only two guests staying in separate huts and no protection. We did stay overnight, November 22, 2017, on the resort property. It was a difficult and stressful night of no sleep. On the night of November 23, 2017, we witnessed a small group of people climbing over the wall to enter the property grounds. At this point in time we made the decision we could not stay overnight at the resort as our personal safety was in jeopardy. We both packed our backpacks with our valuables, money and passports, leaving everything else behind in the hut. Then walked to a hotel that was full of guest and had security guards. We rented a room overnight. As we walked out of the V resort property, 2 people came from behind the wall following us until we entered the main tourist/pedestrian walkway and shops. At that point they turned around and walked back from the way we came. After the incident with the night 'visitors', on November 24, 2017, my friend and I knew we could not continue to stay at the Bohemiam Masala Resort due to the safety concerns. We returned to the resort to pack our belongings and checked out one day prior to our checkout date, and left for Trivandrum. When we told the resort manager we were leaving, he started asking lots of personal probing questions, hesitated to call for a car service to take us to Trivandrum. And after we had left, my friend and I both started receiving phone calls on our cell phones. We are assuming the resort gave out our personal information along with our passport info. Thankfully and smartly, we both had Indian SIM cards in our cell phones (which have been de-activated) and were not using our home country SIM cards. . I firmly believe that this resort is a financial scam to charge guest the full charge upfront upon arrival and then scare them away while keeping their money (I do not understand how this resort even has a merchant account). I believe that had we continued to stay at this resort, I most likely would not be here to write this review

We booked 6 cottages for our large group. The staff are friendly and warm. They upgraded one of our cottages free of cost. We had a really late checkout yet Dilip had been courteous enough not to charge us for the extra late checkout. Personally, i had a small breakfast early in the morning that i liked. The place might seem a little run-down requiring some urgent renovation. Frankly, We were a little hesitant when the images on the site didnt compare to the actual. But the upgrades and the service did the deed for us. A sure recommend.
