Had visited the Velankanni Shrine on Sep 14 2017 & had a 2night stay in Angel Guest House. The Hospitality was really good & the rooms were quite spacious for the four of us. Ms. Maria who was co ordinating with us from the time of Booking till check out extended Great help by offering us Early check in & late check out as requested. The Breakfast served to us in the room was also good & sufficient for all four of us.. Had initially booked a Non AC Room but was upgraded to AC room upon arrival with minimal upgradation charges. It was also close to the Shrine & hence was easily accesible. Would recommend it for people with Family stay's with decent location & surrounding. Overall had a great stay & for the next visit will definitely stay in Angel Guest House only. Congrats to the whole team........Keep rocking......
Angel Guest House with a Hell of an experience

I had booked Angel Guest House (Angel Residency) a week before my trip to Velankanni. I had done this booking via the internet even though the price of the AC double bedroom was shown on the website as Rs. 1500, since it was peak season during the feast and I required a room I went ahead and booked the same for Rs. 2000 and since it being summer we also wanted an AC room considering the heat in the south. There were no reviews on the website about the hotel, I had just gone by seeing the images of the room and the distance of the hotel from the Main Church. I had a number of the lady who I had made the payment via online transfer to and had messaged her about our arrival status, since we were supposed to reach at 09:30pm however due to traffic we got delayed by an hour. The hotel was about 10mins walking distance from the bus stand. When we reached the hotel there wasnt any one at the reception. Two men were standing out side and talking so we waited out for 5 mins thinking that someone would come but since noone came I decided to go it. It was then when the man who saw us waiting for 5mins and chose to ignore us asked us what we want and then we got to know he was the manager of the hotel. Then when we were checking in since we saw that the hotel had a connected restaurant we asked him if we could get dinner, he said yes you can call on the number and we will get it for you. He also took an advance of Rs. 200 for the AC & TV remote and room key. We got a room on the 2nd floor. The room was well maintained and clean. Then we called the number for dinner and ordered for 2 egg fried rice and 1 chicken manchurian gravy. After 5 minutes we got a call back sayin that there is no chicken only egg so we decided to cancel the gravy and get only 1 rice. But the manager just kept hanging up saying that it has already been ordered. Despite me calling and sayin do no keep the phone. Considering language being a barrier we decided to let it go. before we could get settled we checked the functioning of the AC, TV and geyser. After about 15mins the food was served, we informed the manager that we would pay the bill all together when we were checking out the next day which he agreed to. Then much to our surprise he got us two plates of rice which was fine but the rice didnt have only egg but it had chicken along with chicken tikka pieces shredded and added in the rice. We again decided to let it go since it was already very late. We had dinner and then at about 02:00am we tried to switch on the AC it wasnt working. We called the reception there was no answer. So despite me paying extra for an AC room we had to spend the night in the heat luckily the fan was our saviour. Then at 07:00am in the morning. The bell rings again when we went to see who it was a boy who the manager sent to collect the money for the food despite us telling him that we would be paying at checkout. So we paid the money to him and cleared the bill. When we were leaving the hotel for mass at 10:00am we informed the manager that the AC wasnt working the whole night, and our main reason for booking an AC room was for the night since we had a long journey from Chennai to Velankanni. He said in the evening when we were checking out he would make an adjustment and give us back the difference. So we said fine and then left the hotel. We were out the entire day from morning until 10:00am - 04:00pm. When we got back there was another gentleman at the reception. We asked them if the AC was working, it was that we notice that the AC was turned off from the switchboard which was behind the reception.We were anyways checking out before our checkout time since we had our bus at 10:00pm. At 8:30pm, again the same manager calls us and tells us to vacate the room at 09:30pm since he has another booking. Our checkout time was 10:30pm since it was a 24hour policy. We decided to checkout at 09:20pm, since we had to walk to the bus stand. When we went to the reception to checkout the manager was already arguing with 2 other guests. All that we asked him if he could refund the money of the remotes and the room difference as he promised since there was no other charges pending. He was already irritated with the other guests who were tryin to get a discount on their room and he removed the anger on us and started talkin in the local language and in anger removes the Rs. 200 gives it to us and tell us to leave the hotel as though he has done us a favour. When we asked him for the room refund as he promised he arrogantly said contact the lady who did the booking he cant give any money back, we told him that that was not the way he should be speaking. He said to us that you may be big people in Mumbai but we are big over here in Chennai so leave the hotel now. We decided to leave the hotel and not continue further else we would miss the bus. I did message the lady who landed up to be the owner named Maria who didnt do much about the same besides saying I'm sorry but now there is nothin much I can do since you'll have already left the hotel you should have informed have called when you'll were here. If only we knew that she was the owner we definitely would have. I have also posted a picture of the manager... If incase after reading this review anyone still does want to stay at the Angel Residency to have a HELL of an experience
Try the Higher Floor rooms especially at the right corner, since the View of the Shrine is really awesome.
