Magical Stay at Jungle Retreat Wayanad
by claudethepotter on
My family, my wife and I and our two teenagers, spent a few wonderful days at this special place, as part of a three week adventure exploring South India . The moment we arrived the staff offered a warm welcome, showing us to our comfortable two-bedroom cabin up many steps at the height of the property. The location was great, surrounded by jungle, allowing for the constant enjoyment of a symphony of nature's sounds. In fact the entire property, from the viewing tower, to the outdoor dining area, was a feast of sounds and sights, including animals wandering in from the jungle, and beautiful plants and flowers along the retreat's beautiful walkways. The incredibly welcoming and capable staff, offered a perfect mix of great activities and time for tranquil enjoyment of the retreat's grounds. The meals were delicious, and served in a friendly, informal way. Meal times were also a great chance to chat with other guests, sharing stories of wildlife sightings and conversation about where we were from and what we were experiencing in India. Many of the people we met were from cities in South India, and were return guests to the Jungle Retreat. One activity I will skip next time was the safari in Nagarahole. We chose this as an extra activity (and extra cost). Although this is an amazing natural area, the bus was loud (so loud it would probably scare off any animals close by) and uncomfortable, the driver/guide seemed only interested in the idea of seeing the "big prize" sightings of elephants and tigers. We didn't see any, which was not a problem for me. But, no time was taken to appreciate and enjoy the many other animals. Perhaps a safari through the park in a smaller jeep, with a guide more interested in the great variety of things to appreciate would have been more rewarding. Other activities were fantastic, including the Thirunelli Temple, the soup by the bonfire, and the jungle walk. I highly recommend staying at Jungle Retreat Wayanad, for the spectacular setting, the great food and lodging, and the fabulous staff, brimming with enthusiasm and knowledge about the wildlife of the area. I can't wait to go back some day.

We stayed for one ni8 in the early March. The room was excellent. All the staffs were friendly and very polite. From our room itself we have spotted gaur and plenty of deers near to the water hole.Food was excellent and there were so many varieties.Manu was an excellent orator and you won't get bored all the time spent with(night drive, morning trekking) him.People who are interested can prefer the third jungle cottage from which u can have uninterrupted view of water hole. The safari arranged is good and we spotted elephant and a leopard pair, but on the downside it was in a canter and not a jeep.Highly recommended for people who want to be engaged whole time as well as people who want to simply eat and take rest.
Passionate staff and fantastic views.

We had a wonderful three nights at Jungle Retreat in March 2020. Manu was a wonderful host and his passion for the wildlife was infectious. His efforts to help us see a tiger really went above and beyond our expectations. We stayed in a room with a balcony looking over the watering hole where we watched elephants whilst enjoying an afternoon cup of tea. Special mention to the cooks - every meal was inventive and delicious, we never had the same dish twice.
A perfect place to know nature.

After a break of almost 2 years we decided to go back to our most favourite holiday destination. The Jungle retreat Wayanad. And with each visit, the surprises and adrenaline rush that we get from the place has only increased. People ask what is there to see again and again in the same place. That is one question that cannot be answered in words but can only be felt through experience. Now what makes Jungle retreat so special, well the hosts, Anju and Anil, who makes you feel just at home. The knowledge that they have about the Indian jungles and the stories that they have to share. The knowledgeable Manu, who is willing to go to any extent to make the trip a memorable one. The food, it is one of the best I have ever had, and trust me you won't be able to stop eating. The rest of the staff at Jungle retreat who feel more like family than staff. The night drive to the stream, the camp fire under a starlit sky, going and waking up to alarm calls all around you (Typically people wake up to chirping birds, but here in Jungle retreat it is the alarm calls that will wake you up). Looking forward to our next visit.
Perfect for any wildlife enthusiast

It's a perfect place if you want to get away from people and get in touch with nature. Awesome food, cozy rooms. Oh and the staff and owners know everything you need to know about the wild. Go for it!
All the rooms have their own unique charm. Jungle cottages offer best view and the family villa is right next to the game trail

Go to the watch tower and spend as much time as possible there. The villa we chose was great, especially for a family of 4.
