Hotels In Orissa

History
Noted for its rich tribal culture and ornate temples, Odisha is a shining jewel as far as tourism in India is concerned. The state has a long history, with archaeological excavations hinting at over 3 million years ago inhabitation. Ramayana and Mahabharata make numerous mentions of Kalinga – the ancient name of the state. In 261 BC, the region was captured by the Mauryan king, Ashoka, in the famous Kalinga War, which made him renounce violence and embrace Buddhism. In 1751, it was annexed by the Marathas and by 1803, the British absorbed it into their powerful empire. After the declaration of independence, 27 princely states were joined to form the present state of Odisha.

Attractions
Odisha has one of the largest treasures of intricately carved and sculpted Hindu temples anywhere in the country. Some of the most famous such sites here are Lingaraj Temple, Rajarani Temple and the world-famous Konark Sun Temple. Those, who are looking for more of a spiritual value rather than architecture, must visit Jagannath Temple in Puri, one of the Char Dhams of India. Another aspect of tourism in Odisha is its rich biodiversity, which can be witnessed in the numerous wildlife sanctuaries here. The pristine Chilika Lake is noted for being the migration grounds of hordes of bird species.

Hotels
Puri, Bhubaneswar, Konark and Chilika Lake are the most thronged tourist destinations in the state, and they all have plenty of hotels.
