Soon after arrival at Ahmedabad airport/railway station, proceed towards the hotel. After resting for sometime, head for a sightseeing tour of this city.
Start the tour with a visit to Gandhi Ashram, which was the abode of Mahatma Gandhiji till the time he left for Dandi March. It is situated on the banks of Sabarmati River and hence, is popularly known as Sabarmati Ashram. This ashram served as an important centre for activities related to Indian independence and upliftment of society. It now houses a museum, which exhibits various photographs, manuscripts, paintings and literature books written by Gandhiji. Some items related to Gandhiji, such as a spinning wheel and writing desk are also showcased inside this museum.
After exploring this place, head towards the beautifully-constructed Hutheesing Jain Temple. This temple, built by a rich merchant named Sheth Hutheesing, is a revered shrine for Jainism followers. The presiding deity in this temple is Shri Dharmnath, who was the 5th Jain Tirthankar. Sonpura and Salat community artisans and craftsmen involved in the construction of this temple have done excellent carving work on the stones. An attractive feature of this temple is the 78-feet tall Mahavir Stambha, which lies in the outer courtyard.
Thereafter, continue sightseeing and visit the small town of Adalaj. The prominent attraction of this place is the Adalaj Stepwell. This extraordinary vav or stepwell was built by Queen Rudabai in the year 1499. It is an excellent example of Indo-Islamic style of architecture and has Islamic floral patterns and exquisite carvings on the walls and pillars. Along with its architecture, this place is also recognised for being a holy site.
A trip to Ahmedabad is not complete without visiting the beautiful Akshardham Temple. Spread over a land area of approximately 23 acres, this structure is constructed using pink sandstone. The entire construction of this 108-feet tall structure is done in accordance with Vastu Shastra. The centre of attraction of this temple is the 7-foot tall, gold-leafed statue of Lord Swaminarayan.
After this trip, return to the hotel and enjoy a peaceful night stay.
In the morning, get ready and check-out from the hotel. During the journey towards Somnath, visit Porbandar, which is the birthplace of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. It is also a famous industrial centre in the state of Gujarat. While touring this destination, visit the famous Kirti Mandir, which is the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi. A museum within the premises displays old photographs and a collection of books on Gandhian philosophy.
Another prominent attraction here is Sudama Temple, which is dedicated to Sudamaji, who was a friend of Lord Krishna. After exploring both these places, continue your journey towards Somnath.
On arrival at Somnath, visit the famous Somnath Mahadev Temple – believed to be constructed in gold by Somraj, the moon god. Rebuilt several times, the present temple was built in the year 1951. This temple, constructed in the Chalukyan style architecture, has a 50-metre tall shikhara, silver doors, a beautiful idol of Nandi and a shivalinga at the centre.
Enjoy overnight stay at the hotel.
Check-out from the hotel and drive to Ahmedabad to culminate this journey. Tour Ends.
