Activities In bikaner

If you are opting for Bikaner packages, then brace yourself as you are in for a fun and engaging trip. Whether you are here with your friends, family, beau or spouse, you will never run out of things to do. You could roam through the palaces and forts here, attend local festivals, tour the desert or pay homage at temples. Given further are details of all the exciting activities to do here.
Explore the City’s Iconic Attractions
Rajasthan is renowned for its royal heritage, and Bikaner is one of the best places to get a glimpse into it. An idea of it you will get while walking through the expansive Junagarh Fort. Remember to see its high bastions and heavily fortified gates that will tell you about the military genius of the Rajputs. You must also head inside its Rajput-style palace buildings like Karan Mahal, Anup Mahal, Phool Mahal, Badal Mahal, Gaj Mandir, Darbar Hall, Vikram Vilas and Dungar Niwas. The paintings, carvings, latticework, filigree, mirror inlay and stucco shed light on the artistic taste of the former rulers. A tour of the on-site museum, which displays weapons, palanquins, vintage cars and belongings of rulers, is also a great activity.
Laxmi Niwas Palace, a heritage hotel, is an attraction in its own right owing to the rich carvings on its walls. While here, you can walk through a particular section called the Echo Enclosure. Try talking or clapping, and then listening carefully to its echo. At the hotel, you can also look at the scores of turbans or safas displayed here. You will be astounded to know that every ethnic community in Rajasthan has a specific safa, which the locals tie in a particular way.
A city landmark, related more to the local culture than history, is Karni Mata Temple. Its highlight as a tourist attraction is its silver doors that have carvings of Goddess Durga. If you visit Bhandasar Jain Temple, then click pictures of its main hall, which is replete with colourful paintings.
Come Closer to the Local Culture
The culture of Bikaner is extremely vibrant; you can experience it by being part of the local festivities. One of the most colourful festivals of the city is Gangaur, which starts a day after Holi and continues for 18 days. Its highlight is the procession, in which married and unmarried women walk through the streets, carrying earthen pots on their head. Watching the procession would give you an idea of the ethnic jewellery and attire of Rajasthan as well as the folk songs the women march singing.
If you want to meet the native people of Bikaner, then you must attend the Camel Festival. Since Bikaner is in the desert region, camels are an integral part of the villagers’ life and they revere the animals. During it, you will see beautifully adorned camels taking part in races and parades. The 2-day celebration also treats visitors to folk music and dance performances, puppet shows, fire dances and traditional Rajasthani desserts.
Go Camping in the Desert
You cannot hope to return from Bikaner without enjoying a camping excursion in the Thar Desert, the city’s crownpiece. The best time for such a trip would be winters as during it, the weather of Bikaner remains cool and pleasant. Camping trips in the desert include accommodation in tents under the starry sky as well as a bonfire to warm you during the near chilly night. A camel ride on the grainy desert sands is the centrepiece of such trips, with most excursions organised just before sunset so you can watch the spectacle. The night would end with engaging cultural performances from local artists and mouth-watering Rajasthani delicacies.
Taste Local Delicacies
When in Bikaner, do not miss out on the chance to savour local dishes that are renowned all over the world. A city icon, which is now eaten across the country, is Bikaneri Bhujia. You must really taste the authentic version in the city of its origin. Ghevar, a delicious dessert made from flour and ghee, is another must have. For savouring the best of Bikaner in a single sitting, you can opt for a Thali meal, which would include popular dishes like Daal Baati, Gatte Ki Sabzi and Kadhi. Non-vegetarians can try Jungli Maas, a spicy meat curry made with lamb.
The above activities will not only give you an insight into the city’s rich traditions, but also make your tour memorable forever.
