Agartala is the capital of the Indian state, Tripura. The city is also the second largest (area and population wise) in the Northeast region of India, after Guwahati. It is situated on a plain on the bank of the river Haora and lies only 2 km from the Bangladesh border. It covers an area of 76.51 sq km. Northern parts of the city form a low-rising, hilly region.
