Alleppey is a coastal city, adorned with numerous lakes, lagoons and rivers. The proximity to the Arabian Sea makes the city’s climate a very humid one, especially during the summer months between March and May. The city experiences a lull in the tourist season, during this time. Rains set in, from the end of May and is a welcome relief from the heat. The monsoon season truly begins in June and extends till the end of August, sometimes to mid-September. The vibrant colours of nature and the sight of the rain as it caresses the backwater lakes, are truly worth seeing. Houseboats do not operate during this time due to safety concerns. The months from October to February are the best time to visit Alleppey when the city experiences a pleasant winter, with cool breezes and light showers.
