Ambala is located in the state of Haryana and is in close proximity to the capital city of Chandigarh. It is at this point, where the Ganges river is separated from the Indus river. The city is surrounded by two rivers, Ghaggar to the north and Tangri to the south. The district of Ambala, encompasses an area of 1,568.85 square kilometres and is located at an elevation of 264 metres. The district is bound by the Sivalik Range of the Himalayas, by Solan and Simraur districts of Himachal Pradesh, located at the north and north-east of the district, respectively.
