Attractions In bikaner

Never will a city astound you as much with its vibrant culture and tourist attractions as Bikaner. A long list of points of interest is the main reason Bikaner packages are such a rage, and you should never miss a chance to avail one. From grand fortresses and insightful museums to colourful bazaars and the Thar Desert itself, the city has enough to keep the entire family occupied. So, read on further for information of all the wonderful places you can visit in the city:
Forts and Palaces – Experience the Regal Grandeur
Those, who want to delve into the rich history of Bikaner, must visit the forts and palaces here. Not only will these regal complexes give you an insight into the famous Rajput architecture, but also a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle of the erstwhile monarchs.
The foremost royal complex to explore in the desert city is the humongous Junagarh Fort. Its predominantly Rajputana architecture displays influences of the Mughal styles in its paintings, stuccowork and stone inlays, and Gujarati elements in the latticework and carved stone mosaics. Karan Mahal, the hall of public audience, has detailed stuccowork, whereas Phool Mahal is decorated with images of flower vases and water sprinklers. The glass inlay work inside this building is of special mention.
You must definitely see the designs, made with pure gold, and glass mosaics on the walls of Anup Mahal. The blue and white cloud designs in Badal Mahal and floral designs of Gaj Mahal are also noteworthy. The walls of Dungar Niwas depict an image of Maharaja Dungar Singh. When in Junagarh Fort, don’t forget to view its vast museum collection, which has historical weapons, the monarchs’ belongings, classic cars and palanquins, an antique phone and ritual objects.
Another insightful place, which served as a royal residence, is Lallgarh Palace. An outstanding example of Indo-Saracenic architecture, it brings together European, Islamic and Rajput styles in its domes, balconies, cupolas and Italian colonnades as well as the filigree and lattice work.
Be it the opulent decor of its rooms and restaurants, carvings of trees, vines, creepers and orchids in the main porch, paintings of processions and pageants of the lobby or the Indo-Saracenic architecture of the clock tower, everything within Laxmi Niwas Palace is worthy of admiration.
The Twofold Significance of Temples
Most India tour packages to Bikaner include a visit to the temples in the city as these are not only important places of worship, but also architectural marvels. The most prominent among all, Karni Mata Temple is an eye-catching structure of spotless white marbles. Its silver doors bear carvings, depicting legends associated with its presiding deity. Bhandasar Jain Temple is even more significant as far as ornamentation is concerned as its interior walls and domed ceiling are brightly painted. The images are of flowers, the 24 Jain Tirthankaras, battle scenes and palace compounds.
Museums – Dive into the Vibrant Rajasthani Culture
Museums are the perfect places to take a trip through the colourful culture of Bikaner, and you should not leave the city without visiting them. One such site, the Ganga Government Museum has artefacts dating to the Kushan, Gupta and Harappan times. An interesting thing here is the silk robe, which belonged to Emperor Jehangir. The Sadul Singh Museum displays hunting trophies of the city’s former monarchs along with Georgian paintings.
Exhibited at the Prachina Museum are the royal family’s household objects, accessories like pedicure and manicure equipment, jewellery, buckles, buttons, beads, scissors, Belgian mirrors and perfume bottles. Other things to see here are brass containers, wine, whiskey and champagne glasses, and crockery. You can also visit its culture centre to read books on local history and traditions. The Rajasthan State Archives has written articles from the Mughal era as well as those, written under various rulers of Rajasthan.
The above-mentioned are not the only attractions that you can explore in Bikaner. Among the most popular points of interest here are the royal cenotaphs at Devi Kund. It is a complex of 23 royal cenotaphs, consisting of a square pedestal covered by an open chhatri. If you are a nature lover, then you may plan an excursion to Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary, home to black bucks, chinkaras, wild boars, nilgais and imperial geese.
