There are numerous temples in Jalandhar as there are mosques, gurdwaras and churches that are a testament to the religious
harmony of the locals. The most significant shrine in the city is Devi Talab Mandir, one of the Shakti Peethas, where a body
part of Goddess Sati fell as per myths. Believed to be over 200 years old, the temple gets its name from the rectangular
tank within the complex. Apart from the sanctum, the other highlight of the shrine is a huge diorama, depicting a snow-clad
mountain, Lord Shiva seated on a tiger, Narada in reverence, a four-armed goddess sitting on a crocodile and another goddess
standing by a lion.
Another shrine, with its origin going back to the mythical age, is Tulsi Mandir. It is said that the tank at the site was
used as a bathing site by a demon, named Jalandhara; the shrine is dedicated to his wife. If you are coming here, then you
may also visit temples dedicated to Goddess Annapurna and Lord Shiva nearby. An interesting temple in the city is Shiva
Mandir, which was built by a Muslim sultan. This Lodhi-era temple has an Islamic-style entrance; rest of its features are
typical of Hindu temple architecture.
Imam Nasir Masjid is an absolute architectural jewel, and you should explore it. The mausoleum, about 800 years old, and the
mosque, built around 400 years ago, display Islamic architectural elements like lattice windows, Arabic calligraphy and
domes. About 20 km from the city in the town of Kapurthala, lies the renowned Moorish Mosque. Said to be modelled on the
Koutoubia Mosque in Morocco, it has its interiors decorated with a range of designs.
Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Museum
One of the best places to learn about the history of Jalandhar and nearby areas is Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh
Museum. Dedicated to the famous freedom fighter, Bhagat Singh, also known as Shaheed-e-Azam, it is located in the village of
Khatkar Kalian, about 50 km from the city. The museum displays photographs and other documents that highlight his and his
companions’ efforts in the Indian Freedom Struggle. Here, you can see bones half burnt and newspaper pieces with blood
stains that remind of the gruesome fight for independence. The collection also has a copy of the First Lahore Conspiracy
Case judgement, containing notes penned down by Bhagat Singh. Another item on display here is a copy of the Geeta, with
Bhagat Singh’s signature. The exhibition also features Ajit Singh’s belongings, the pen used for signing Bhagat Singh’s
death sentence and Bhagat Singh’s jail diary.
Wonderland Theme Park
If you are coming here with friends or have kids with you, then you can plan an outing to Wonderland Theme Park. Popular
among the people of Jalandhar, it has a range or joyrides for kids to have a fun-filled day. Some leisurely rides that kids
