It is the place from where Krishna’s maternal uncle Kans, known for his infamous ways, ruled centuries ago. The fort was reconstructed by the Rajput king Man Singh of Jaipur in medieval times which he used as his occasional residence. Years later, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh of Jaipur, who was an avid astronomy enthusiast, had built an observatory at the top of the fort with instruments of his own invention on a large scale to achieve the precision and accuracy. The historical fort is at present, in a ruined state but one can still form a clear conception as to the impressive structure it once was. The old hall of the fort, which is outside is a handsome and substantial building divided into three aisles by ranges of red sandstone pillars.
