Another related story is of Rasiya Balam, a sculptor of Dilwara Jain Temples, who dug the lake in one night in hopes to marry the daughter of a king. Surrounded by lush hills, it pleases the eyes with its majesty. A few steps from here will take you to Toad Rock. As apparent from its name, it is a rock in the shape of a toad.

If you want to click amazing pictures of the Aravali Hills, head to Honeymoon Point. From an altitude of approximately 4,000 ft above sea level, it commands awe-inspiring views of Nakki Lake. Likewise, you can also capture a mesmerising view from the Sunset Point. To relax your mind, you can also visit Peace Park, which is soaked in greenery.

Jain and Hindu Temples

If the idea behind your visit is spiritual, then map of Mount Abu is dotted with numerous Jain and Hindu temples, where you can seek solace. While some of these are frequented by hordes of devotees, others are thronged for their sheer design and architecture. Dilwara Jain Temples, built between 11th and 13th centuries is a sight to behold. The intricately carved ceiling and pillars of the temples speak volumes about the architectural brilliance of the people of the bygone era. It is even considered superior to the Taj Mahal in terms of design and finesse by many experts.

Accessible only by a series of 365 steps, Adhar Devi Temple also holds a special place among the people of Mount Abu. The shrine is dedicated to Sati, the wife of Lord Shiva. Even though it is not one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, it is considered to be the place where half body of the goddess fell; hence, the name adhar, which translated to half body. A sacred well with milky water, called Doodh Baori is located nearby. Shri Raghunathji Temple, nestled on the shores of Nakki Lake, is another shrine you can explore. The 14th-century structure is dedicated to Raghunath Ji, who was believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Its impressive paintings, carvings and wall inscriptions make it worth a visit. Achaleshwar Mahadev Temple, located in the vicinity of Achalgarh Fort, is believed to be constructed around a toe print of Lord Shiva. Its highlight is the 4-tonne statue of Nandi (bull), made of panchdhatu (an alloy of 5 metals). A major centre for spirituality in the region, Brahma Kumari Ashram can also be visited to learn about Raja Yoga and meditation.
