Attractions In rishikesh

The city of Rishikesh needs no introduction as it has been a sought-after tourist destination for a long time now. It rose to fame in the late 1960s when The Beatles visited it, and since then, its fame has grown leaps and bounds. In case you are wondering about what all points of interest you can explore here with India tour packages, here’s a list of those:

Quaint Temples

Among all the things that Rishikesh is famous for, the biggest is spirituality. As soon as you step into the city, an aura of peace and tranquillity surrounds you. Nothing will give you a better insight into the culture of Rishikesh than a visit to the centuries-old temples. Trimbakeshwar Temple, overlooking the holy Ganga River, is one of the most significant places of worship in the city. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is also referred to as Tera Manzil Temple owing to its 13 storeys. Considered one of the oldest temples here, Bharat Mandir is also worth a visit. A popular belief associated with the site says that all the wishes of a devotee, who takes 108 parikramas of the idol of Lord Shri Hrishikesh Naranyan on the auspicious day of akshaya tritiya come true.
About 30 km from the city centre is Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Surrounded by thick forest, the shrine not only charms with its tranquillity, but also with its environs. Often included in various Rishikesh packages, Raghunath Temple is where you can go next. It is believed to be the spot where the sacred Yamuna and Saraswati rivers meet Ganga. With a visit to Kunjapuri Temple, situated on a hilltop at an altitude of 1676 metres, you can admire magnificent vistas of the Garhwal Himalayas.

Peaceful Ashrams

Rishikesh also has a number of tranquil ashrams, where you can seek inner peace. Among the largest such places in the city, Parmarth Niketan Ashram brims with uninterrupted peace and spirituality. Walking in the manicured gardens or along the banks of the Ganga which flows beside the ashram, you will forget the cacophony of life and come one step closer to your inner self.
During your visit to Madhuban Ashram, do make it a point to attend an indulgent yoga session to rejuvenate your senses. For a deeper learning of this ancient Indian discipline, you can head to Himalayan Yog Ashram that offers regular yoga courses and Ayurvedic healing programs. Some other ashrams in the city are Swami Dayanand Ashram, Phool Chatti Ashram, Vanprastha Ashram and Kriya Yoga Ashram.

Wildlife Destination

What nature enthusiasts coming to Rishikesh love to do is explore the biodiversity of Uttarakhand, and among the best places for it is Rajaji National Park. Covering an area of about 820 sq km, the site is home to elephants, tigers, panthers, spotted deer, wild boars, Himalayan black bears and sloth bears. With hundreds of bird species, it also proves to be a heaven for an ornithologist or a casual birdwatcher. Shikra, black-headed jay, Indian roller, treepie, yellow-crowned woodpecker, verditer flycatcher, barn swallow, blue-throated barbet, white throated kingfisher, common tailorbird, great tit, green-backed tit and Himalayan bulbul are some birds that you can spot here. A variety of eagles and vultures are also found in the park.

The Sacred Bridges

While in Rishikesh, you must explore its two sacred bridges. Over time, Ram Jhula and Lakshman Jhula have become a major tourist attraction, and you will find these in almost all Rishikesh packages. The two iron suspension bridges do more than just help cross the mighty Ganga River; these also let you admire magnificent views of the holy destination.

Triveni Ghat

Apart from temples and ashrams, you can also go to the Ganga ghats to seek solace. The most popular name on this list is Triveni Ghat, where most devotees come to take a dip in the sacred river to wash away their sins. This is believed to be the confluence spot of Ganga, Saraswati and Yamuna rivers. You must not forget to attend the evening aarti here, which is held in high regards. During this time, thousands of people gather here to pay homage to Goddess Ganga, and the entire area buzzes with religious chants.
These are the attractions of Rishikesh that beckon tourists and devotees in huge numbers.
