Azamgarh map shows it is the easternmost city in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The city is landlocked by the districts of Mau in the east, Gorakhpur in the north, Gaziapur in the south-east, Jaunpur in the south-west, Sultanpur in the west and Ambedkar Nagar in the north-west. The city is located on the banks of river Tamsa. Azamgarh has an area of 4054 sq. Km and is situated at a height of 77.65 m from sea level. There are a number of lakes in the district of Azamgarh which supplies sufficient water to the city and the surrounding rural areas. The land here is plain without any hills around, unlike the other regions of the Indo-Gangetic Plain. This fertile land is favourable for grains like rice, wheat, maize, mustard, gram, corn and sugar cane. Orchards of fruits like mango and guava are also found here in plenty.
