The Dadri Mela is the main festival of Ballia. In the first half of the mela, cattle are sold while some cultural programs are organized during the second half. Chatt Puja performed by married women is another important festival of the region. Ramlila, Raslila, Swang, Naqaal, Charkula, and Dadra are some of the folk dance forms popular in Ballia, most of which involve re-enactments of different episodes from the great epic- Ramayana. The local cuisine has influences of Mughal and Awadhi style of cooking. Rice, vegetable, dal, and roti are staples in Ballia. Meat and fish too are occasionally consumed. Desserts such as kheer, jalebi, and gulab jamun are also popular among the locals.
