Bareilly is tucked away in the upper Ganges plain, approximately 70 km north of the river Ganga and within the sight of the outer foothills of the Central Himalayas. The city is on the banks of the Ramganga river and is blessed with fertile alluvial soil. There is also a rain forest in the north, known as “tarai” where wildlife is abundant and is filled with tigers, bears, deer and wild boars. The city occupies an area of only 235 square km (91 sq. mi) with groves of trees in plenty.
