Darjeeling is connected to Siliguri by National Highway 55. The town and its surrounding areas are served by North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC), which is run by the state government. This corporation also provides buses to and from other parts of West Bengal and its neighbouring states. Many private agencies also ply buses to Darjeeling. However, smaller vehicles such as jeeps and SUVs are more popular among tourists as well as residents.
Journey Suggestion: Though National Highway 55 is in good condition, the area is prone to landslides during the monsoon season. This disrupts transportation in Darjeeling and causes frequent traffic jams. Therefore, tourists generally avoid travelling to Darjeeling during the rainy season.
