Indore is a city located in an elevated plain, in the southern part of the Malwa Plateau. Saraswati and Khan are the two major rivers in Indore. Situated at an elevation of 553 m from mean sea level, the mountains of the Vindhya Range envelope Indore towards the south. The region is interspersed with many lakes like Yashwant Lake, Sirpur Tank, Sukhniwas Lake, Bilawali Talab, Piplyapala Talab and Sirpur Tank. These lakes are the main sources of water for the people of the city. Indore falls under Seismic Zone III Region, making earthquakes with a magnitude of up to 6.5 on the Richter Scale a possibility.
