Katra has a rich cultural heritage, being located close to the temple of Vaishno Devi. Navratri is the most important festival in Katra, celebrated during the months of September and October. It is an auspicious festival celebrated for nine days. The first three days are devoted to Goddess Kali. On the next three days, Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, is worshipped. The last set of three days is devoted to Saraswati, the Goddess of wisdom. \n\nDuring this festival, the temple is decorated with beautiful flowers and the people of the town celebrate it with pomp and gaiety. The festival is generally conducted during the months of September and October and it is the most preferred tourist season. Jammu & Kashmir State Tourism Department conducts events during these nine days. Some of the events include inaugural ceremony, All India Devotional Songs Competition, Shobha Yatra, Religious Discourses, Wrestling Competition and other such cultural programmes.
