Keylong, a mid-sized village, has a total of 319 families residing within its boundaries. The Sarpanch or the Village Head - an elected representative of Keylong - is in charge of Keylong’s administration. The locals, who speak mostly Tibetan along with some Hindi, are simple, friendly, and generous. Woollen clothes are common to both men and women to keep them warm when it gets cold in this hill station. The men dress in loose trousers and cover themselves with a woollen coat. They top off their look with a colourful hat called the Kinnauri topi. Women wear a loose kurta and tight-fitting pyjamas and throw on a gown called Dugpo. They complete their colourful look with a sash around the waist.
