The town of Khajuraho has a rural feel to it. The houses are basic, and most only have one room and furnished with nothing more than a gas stove. A lot of houses do not have bathrooms and people often bathe at hand pumps. Most villagers are involved in either animal husbandry or pottery making. Although they are used to tourists since Khajuraho sees a good strength of them every year, they like to stay isolated and don't mingle much with them. While children usually ask tourists for food and sometimes ask for money as well, several adults demand money from tourists for taking pictures.
