The transportation in Cochin through local bus network is efficiently managed by Kerala Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and some private bus operators. They ply a number of air-conditioned and non-air conditioned low-floor and normal buses, to reach every corner of the city.
Cabs and taxis are readily available in Cochin for sightseeing and very much used by the tourists. Ola Cabs, Uber etc. operates taxis in the city. Autorickshaws are also available but it is difficult to get one early in the morning and late night. Also, make sure the charges are according to the meter fare.
Operators like Savaari Car Rentals and Cochin Car rentals provide cars on rent. Both self-driven and chauffeur-driven cars are available. The choice of cars available ranges from sedans to SUVs to luxury cars like Mercedes, BMW etc. However, if unfamiliar to the territory, it is best to go with chauffeur-assisted driving.
The metro in Cochin is under construction and the initial phase is expected to be completed by the end of the year 2016.
Numerous trains running to the neighbouring cities of Cochin also have stops at different parts of the city like Edapally, Vaikom, Mattancherry etc.
Walking around and covering all the attractions in Cochin is near to impossible, as the city is spread out. But areas like Fort Kochi, Mattancherry etc. are best viewed on foot.
