The history of Kota goes back to the 12 century when the Hada, a Chauhan Rajput chief, Rao Deva, occupied the land and founded Bundi and Hadoti. Then, in the early 17th century during the control of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir, the ruler of Bundi - Rao Ratan Singh, gave the principality of Kota to his son, Madho Singh. Since then, Kota became a trademark of the Rajput valour and culture.\n\nThe sovereign state of Kota came into existence in the year 1631 when Rao Madho Singhal, the second son of Rao Ratan was made the leader by Jahangir, the Mughal Emperor. Soon after that, Kota outgrew its parent state and become bigger in vicinity, wealthier in revenue and much more powerful. With a magnificent past and rich heritage, the Kota kings were famous for their great performances in the wars fought with Mughal rulers.
