There are government-run buses that go to all the tourist main attractions in the city. The buses leave from the centre of town. There are 2 tour routes – the Pratapgad Darshan and the Mahabaleshwar Darshan. During the off-season these buses are limited. The buses are a good and safe way to see the city but the tickets will have to be booked a day in advance as there are limited seats.
There are taxis for local transport as well as for sightseeing. There are fixed rates for sightseeing and the main office for the cab service is opposite the Government Bus Stand. Taxis offer a pre-defined time of 7 tours for local sightseeing and drops. They are either charged for a day’s use or depending on the number of points/stops. The other modes of transport within the city are rickshaws and horses.
There are a few car rental companies like Avis and Kayak that work within the city. There are rental companies that provide cars from neighbouring cities for those who wish to drive to Mahabaleshwar. The local cabs and buses are the preferred means of sightseeing as the drivers know the system well and can also explain the history of the spots.
Mahabaleshwar does not have a Metro Rail system at present.
There is no train station in Mahabaleshwar and hence local rail transport is not available.
