Local buses are available at Kankanadi or at the State Bank terminus which is near the DC office. There are local buses operated by the government and private players. They operate buses of semi- deluxe, sleeper and Volvo types to various destinations within the city. There are also various other pick-up points and drop points within Mangalore city as per passenger’s convenience.
Auto Rickshaws are available throughout the city, preferred for short routes. You can make use of local taxi services for longer routes. App-based services such as Ola Cabs and TaxiForSure are also becoming popular.

Currently there is no metro line in Mangalore. However a proposal has been submitted to the Railway Board. The metro could link the major cities like Sakleshpur, Kadur, Musigere, Belur and Bangalore with the city of Mangalore.
Mangalore is well connected by local train system centered at Mangalore Central (MAQ). This railway station is inter-connected with the local stations at Mangalore and other parts of the Karnataka. These trains are run by the Karnataka State Railways Authorities.
Kodachadri hills near Kollur, Kumara Parvat near Kukke Subramanya, and Yedakumeri near Sakleshpur are nearby hotspots meant for trekking. Water bottles, good shoes, camping tents and anti-biotic medicines are a must while trekking at these places. For the adventurous, the Western Ghats near Mangalore provides an ideal location to get lost in nature.
