Nestled between the rivers Kaveri and Kabini, at the foot of Chamundi Hills, Mysore is a city that spans an area of 128 sq. km. It is the southern-most city in the state of Karnataka and has an average altitude of 770 m from sea level. The district lies on an extension of the Deccan Plateau and is enveloped on almost all sides by the Western Ghats. Several lakes are found in Mysore such as Kukkarahalli, Karanji and Lingambudhi. These water bodies make up nearly 2 % of the total land area being used. Mysore is 146 km away from Bangalore, the capital city of the state of Karnataka.
