● Lake Tsomgo: This beautiful lake is located at a distance of 40 kilometres from Gangtok. This is a glacial lake situated at an altitude of 3,753 metres. During winter season, the lake is in a frozen state. Tsomgo Lake was hugely respected by the local Sikkimese population, who live near this lake. It is said that Buddhist monks made prophecies by observing the changing colours of the lake in different seasons.

● Do Drul Chorten: Located in Gangtok, Do Drul Chorten is a Buddhist shrine which has a hemispherical structure. On the exterior of this structure, there are 108 prayer wheels which are also known as Mani Lhakor. Inside this structure, there are a large number of sacred relics and other religious material. It was built by Trulshik Rinpoche in the year 1945.

● Nathu La Pass: This is a mountain pass situated in the Himalayas and is located at a distance of 56 km from Gangtok. It is located at an altitude of 4,310 meters. This pass is an open trading border between India and China. There are only three such open trading border posts. There are no settlements of the local population around this area. Travellers can spot a few herds of sheep in this region.

● Banjhakri Falls and Park: It is a recreation centre and tourist attraction located at a distance of 5 kilometres from Gangtok. The Banjhakri Falls is a natural waterfall which is sourced from high elevated springs. The waterfall has a height of 30 metres. The park near this waterfall is spread over an area of 2 acres.

● Tashi View Point: This viewpoint is a popular tourist spot located at a distance of 8 km from Gangtok. This viewpoint offers a scintillating view of the massive Kanchenjenga mountain range. ● Rumtek Monastery: Popularly known as the Dharmachakra Centre, this monastery is situated at a distance of 22 kilometres from Gangtok. It was built in the Bhutanese dzong architecture. Rumtek Monastery was built during the 16th century by the 12th Karmapa Changchub Dorje. This ancient monastery has beautiful surroundings which includes crystal-clear rivers and snow-capped mountain ranges.

● Temi Tea Garden: This tea garden was established by Sikkim government in 1969. It is situated in Ravangla at a distance of 56 kilometres from Gangtok. Furthermore, this tea garden is partially marketed under the trading identity known as ‘Temi Tea’. Spread over an area of 440 acres, this tea garden is a natural habitat for animals such as Asian bullfrog and Japalura lizard.

● Himalayan Zoological Park: Generally known as Darjeeling Zoo, the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is situated at an altitude of 2,134 metres. It is known as the highest zoo of India. It was opened in 1958. This zoo is home to many endangered animal species such as Snow leopard, Himalayan wolf and red panda. This zoo is visited by 300,000 visitors on a yearly basis.

● Seven Sister Waterfalls: Situated on the Gangtok-Lachung Highway, this beautiful site is located at a distance of 32 kilometres from Gangtok. At this site, travellers will witness an array of seven waterfalls cascading from a height of 315 meters.
