Places to Visit in pune

Pune, called as queen of the Deccan, is the second largest commercial yet vintage city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Pune was initially given pride of place by Shivaji and the ruling Peshwas, who made it their capital. The British took the city in 1817 and soon made it the Bombay Presidency’s monsoon capital seeing its cool and dry climate. Pune has long been a major educational and cultural centre.

The city is also called ‘Queen of the Deccan’, and is considered as the cultural capital of the Maratha people. The city first gained importance as the capital of the Bhonsle Marathas in the 17th century. It was temporarily captured by the Mughals but again served as the official Maratha capital from 1714 until its fall to the British in 1817. Moreover, Pune is famous for its historic and religious monuments, museums, parks, hotels and cultural attractions. It is also the headquarters of the southern command of the Indian army, with the Khadakwasla Academy located nearby.

The best time to visit Pune is between October to March. During this time period, the weather in Pune remains pleasant and tourists can explore the city and summers (April to June) can be avoided because of relatively high temperature and humidity.

Some of the popular places to visit in Pune are:

● Shaniwar Wada Palace
