However, the best time to visit Puri is winters.

Winter makes its presence felt around the month of October and November when the temperature starts falling to an average of 16-degree Celsius. The months of December and January are pleasant for vacationers not only because the breeze blows with bright sunshine but also because the city is relatively calm and less crowded. It is the best season to travel to Puri for couples especially. Take a stroll on Puri beach, watch the infinite sea and taste some of the famous local delicacies. If you are an art connoisseur, the International Sand Art Festival takes places at Chandrabhaga Beach in Puri that sees skillful sand artists from around the globe. It is a remarkable cultural event where you can see soft golden sands sculpted into various magnificent forms.

Summer season sets in from March onwards and stays until May. The temperature ranges between 20-degree Celsius to 45-degree Celsius during this time. The climate is hot and humid during summer, but if you are planning to take a budget trip to this holy city, it is ideal to book Puri tourist packages during this season. Also, Chandan Yatra - a procession of Lord Jagannath happen in April-May. It is a 21-day festival where representative images of the deities namely Rama, Krishna, Vishwadhatri, and Madanmohan, Laxmi are taken out to Narendra Kunda. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm greet the city of Puri between the months of June and September. It is the peak tourist season to visit Puri as during the month of June-July the revered Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath takes place. Famous over the world as Chariot Festival, lakhs of pilgrims visit Puri during this time, and it is best to book hotels in Puri in advance if you plan to come during this season. It is the most awaited festival of the year in the state and sees many foreigners flocking to the city to witness the procession of deities from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.

Also, for religiously inclined tourists, September is a good month to see Puri tourist places as well as attend the Ganesh Puja that is held here. A week-long festival, it sees clay images of Lord Ganesh installed on beautifully raised platforms. On the final day of the week, before the immersion ceremony takes place, you get to see hundreds of devotees line before the lion's gate of Lord Jagannath temple to seek blessings.
