In 2010, a city bus service under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission was commenced to meet the increasing demands for public transportation. Virtually 150 buses operate in Ranchi at present with the major bus stands being Birsa Bus Terminus (Khadgada), the Ratu Road Bus Stand and the State Transport Bus Terminal (Overbridge).
One can hire a cab or taxi for a fixed period of time from taxi operators. The auto-rickshaws do not run on meter but fares vary depending upon the route also as many passengers as possible are crammed in. One can also opt for private autorickshaws at a slightly higher rate. Interestingly, pink auto-rickshaws driven by female drivers are gaining popularity. Cycle rickshaws are also another means of transport in and around the city. Mobile app-based taxi services like Uber and Ola are also quite popular.

There are several companies that offer cars for rent. Clear Car Rental, Savaari Car Rentals and so on. One can also rent bicycles and motor bikes for travelling purposes.
